Coventry City Fans

I've got a soft spot for Cov, a couple of my best mates support them and had some great days at Highfield rd, most notably coming back from 2 down to win 3-2 with Tricky Ricky Holden in all of his snail paced glory that day.

What has happened to that club is nothing short of a disgrace and as PB says, there but for the grace of god i go, as that could have been us. I went to a couple of games with my mates prior to the crisis with stadium, and i predicted trouble, a prohibitive purchasing system (no cash you had to acquire a card to get a pint or burger) especially for the occasional visitor like myself, added to the fact Coventry didnt earn any of the match day income, it going half to the council and half to the ground owners, meant it was only heading one way. Any set of fans deserve better, i joked with my mates that i could do a better job of running that club. I was telling them the fans need to take over ASAP and the fact the football league backed their new owners (a bastardised version of SISU) over a fresh set of owners (or the fans) needs looking at IMO.

Yes the City is a shithole, so are many others in the country, doesnt mean i think their football clubs should suffer the fate Coventry have. Good luck to them, they should at least be in the Championship, Pressley seems to have them playing decent stuff and they will be back there soon i reckon.

cov was my first ever away game 1-1 think it was 71-72? used to live near cov, nothing against them, if I remember wernt they 3rd as in the team in the top flight for the longest behind arse and blue dippers? would nice to see them back in the top flight. as for the town being a shytehole , it was decimated during the blitz.

Off thread I know, but go to Dresden or Ypres to see how a town or city can be rebuilt.

Tbf I was working in Cov for a week a couple of years ago and the centre was almost unrecognisable from my previous footy visit (3-4 defeat in 2001/2) - a big improvement.

There's an ex bouncer from Coventry called Geoff Thompson who writes about his time working the doors there in the 80's,his first called 'Watch my back' a cracking read.

Weird bunch us city fans. All the riches and talent we have and we can still find time to knock a third levels teams fans, who have spent a year traveling 30 odd miles to watch home games.

I'm not knocking the fans who travelled to Northampton.
I'm knocking the 16,000 who went to the Gillingham game and then promptly pissed off back to what they were doing before the move to Northampton, ie not going to games.

That's fair enough.

Living in Coventry myself now and the Cov fans I know even said the same thing.

Ha! Where did that random thread come from?! Some Coventry filly break your heart in years gone by? ;-)

Ha ha something like that! Spent a few years living in the concrete jungle. Dreadful place and accent.
It is a horrible accent. I don't think it's possible to sound clever with an accent like that.
