Karen, read it again.

"We think this virus is likely to be one that comes year on year, becomes like a seasonal virus," he told Sky News.

"Communities will become immune to it and that's going to be an important part of controlling this longer term.

"About 60% is the sort of figure you need to get herd immunity.""

that is not the same as saying the current plans aim is to use herd immunity.

They have been clear about the strategy and where we are in it and why it's the strategy and how extreme the measures will become and why they are not doing everything right now.

If you have to finesse the quoted statement as to not mean what it clearly implies, ie to have herd immunity you need to reach a certain infection level then the Govt strategy is not clear is it?

And given the media from the BBC to the FT via the MoS has seen fit to give the Govts communications a severe kicking today I would suggest that you are largely alone in this valiant attempt to prove otherwise.

Dutch government set to announce the closure of schools. It was only on Thursday that it had maintained schools should remain open, with particular fears that health workers with young children would be forced to leave their posts. Under increasing criticism from the federation of medical specialists, school heads, and parents, a U-turn is imminent.

It's not a policy Karen it's the inevitable outcome when the epidemic has run its course.
The FT, MoS and BBC have all said today they’d been briefed by annonymous coms people in government last week that it was policy.

It’s been absolutely ridiculed by the scientific community and they’re now trying to manage the PR fall out of that.

I suspect we'll do the same this week.

In the next week these figures will sky rocket. Imagine the lunacy then. I'm going asda during the night tomorrow.
It's worse than new years eve.. shopping wise

It feels like a big dream/nightmare this, never known anything like it and it shows how fragile the economy is etc when something serious happens. It wont just be the virus doing harm though it will be the anxiety of all the headlines in the news etc
