Another 813 people have died in UK hospitals after testing positive for coronavirus, the Department of Health has said, taking the total to 20,319.

The majority of those deaths - 18,084 (up 711) - are in England.

Scotland's daily figures showed that another 47 people have died there, taking the total to 1,231.

Wales has reported a further 23 deaths, giving a total of 774, and Northern Ireland's hospital deaths have increased by 16 to 294

A few weeks ago there was mass outrage in tabloids at the prospect of a “herd immunity” strategy being adopted. Now everyone is advocating for a lifting of the lockdown despite us averaging 700 odd deaths a day.

We’re supposed to be on lockdown yet B&Q is open for business. Possible this should go into the political thread but government needs to stop obfuscating. Media and general population will be split on whichever they do.

exactly. 700 odd deaths reported a day on average, but the media on overdrive to get people back to work, shopping and in restaurants.

as you suggest it goes against public opinion. But it’s all about money and money always seems to win.

Another day, another indication that Rt approximately equals 1. I wonder how long it will take Whitty, Vallance and boys to state what needs to be done?

I want to know where all those having heart attacks and strokes are,are they dying at home? If so there will be a post mortum, will we see a big jump in the ONS total figures later on? Visits to A&E are down by 50%,people must still be breaking bones etc,it is a mystery

People are not going to the drs/hospital with cancer symptom either

Are there still people saying we are past the peak? Or we are on the road to recovery. Sure as hell doesn’t feel like it.

we’ve been in so called lockdown for a month now and we are still getting 800 deaths a day - probably a lot more with care homes.

my thinking is that we haven’t really been in a lockdown at all, compared to other countries. Lots of people still in close contact and socialising. Went for my weekly shop today and there was loads of cars on the road and people on walks.

we are also still letting people fly into the country without being checked, which beggars belief

I can’t see how we can come out of this (lockdown) for a few months yet.

I think it going to go up,the nice weather is here, people going back to work,i don't think people will entertain a tighter lockdown

WHO saying again today there is no evidence of immunity yet

How are you doing lovely?

How are you doing lovely?

I’m good thanks. My heads gone a bit, but I’ve got my family helping me out at the minute, which is helping.

It’s hard not to be depressed by all the news, but coming on here and trying to keep busy is probably the best cure for that. How are you doing?

No. Its a couple of days before symptoms and then 18 on average before negative outcome.
Sure heard it can be upto at leat 5 days and upto 5 weeks after symptoms. I didn't mention average i said upto.

EDIT. Yep just checked, can be upto 14 days to show symptoms but average 5 and upto 5 weeks after symtoms to die.

I don’t normally sit and watch these UK briefings, but from today’s this Medical official isn’t very good at giving a straight answer to these questions is he? You kind of expect a roundabout answer from politicians, but expected better from him.

When is Boris back for these briefings?
We need him answering these questions, its the same questions every day.
