The government should act immediately to help in any way it can to improve availability of delivery services - e.g. getting the army to do some - and also require the supermarkets to control numbers and safe distances.

Said weeks ago that taxi companies and their drivers should be redeployed in this area, and van hire companies should have their vehicles commandeered as well. The State needs to do more to stop people seeking an excuse to go out.

Plenty cars going past my house lots ov people I know at work ( most self employed ) this needs clarity for non essential workers and importantly some assurance to self employed
Spot on mate , I’ve posted a paragraph from Piers morgan & gove interview on Self employed thread

The supermarkets only had the capacity to deliver 7-8% of their total sales before the crisis began. No doubt they can significantly increase that, especially if the army get involved. But i would be very pleasantly surprised if they can increase it to 20% in the next few weeks. Most of that capacity will be reserved for the 1.5m, I don’t think it will be widely available.

They need to issue some guidelines on frequency of shopping. I heard one suggestion that we should restrict it to once a week. Which would be good from the point of view of restricting contact, but would inevitably mean that people will stockpile. Not sure what the right balance is.
They need to open 24 hours to spread out the footfall as much as possible.

yep. This will be extended with stricter measures in a couple weeks as people just don’t get the message.
That's one line of thought. Another would be that workers are not flouting anything. Their employer expects them in for work and they have to go in. Retail sector was locked down yesterday but when you read the guidance on gov.uk, there's large sectors of the economy for example industrial and construction who are not mentioned.

They are gradually tightening. They've been doing this all along. It's deliberate. Taking a laissez-faire attitude towards a replicating virus is just going to reduce but not stop its transmission. It's quite deliberate but I am at a loss to understand why they would do this. I have a theory that they are still following their original mitigation strategy of infecting the herd but that you have to take a very dim view of humanity to accept that. But what else is there?

We seem to be the only European country who are adopting such a relaxed view. I don't feel relaxed but you know what I mean.

Sorry but that is bollocks, telling people groups will not be allowed but you can do exercise on parks ect with people from your household. What a joke the police are in an impossible situation because of it.

How about every **** stays inside and you go in your garden that's it.

All that basically means is parents can take their young children outdoors. They are trying to cover groups with wording. I think itl be obvious where groups arent from a household. And, again, that isnt the point, it is that the public should be trusted to do the right thing and not exploit the wording.

Piers Morgan apoplectic with rage again today. Losing it with his own colleague Ranvir Singh. It was a bit out of order and rude really. He’s furious with the government but taking it out on his own reporters.
The guy is like marmite , but I for one am glad he is banging the drum for self employed etc and the clarity needed. But as you say no excuse to be rude

A minor point but I'm finding it irritating that no one in government can say they got it wrong. Gove this morning got it wrong about shared custody but then came back and said he wasn't clear. He fucking was clear, he was clearly wrong.
It's an unfortunate and undesirable side effect of our adversarial political system where admitting error is seized upon by opposition as an opportunity to amplify criticism and make political gain. It's a shame. People understand everyone is only human and we all make mistakes.

"My apologies, I got that wrong" is a statement we hardly ever hear and that is a shame. I think people would - in the main - respect it.
