COVID-19 — Coronavirus

I think we'll see europe control it. What is most worrying are the situations in poorer countries. How is a country like India going to stop it?

We really need the science to catch up and come up with some quick testing regimes that can be instigated en masse. It does sound like they are getting closer and closer but the British medical advisers say very little about them. Could that be because we haven't bought them and thus don't want to mention them? Strange given that British companies have helped develop them. Perhaps they are not as effective as claimed.

The Birmingham airport mortuary will have initial capacity for 1200 with a potential to hold 12,000 in a worst case scenario.

Worth nothing that the regional mortuaries may close and the airport one will cover all West Midlands with all deaths not just Covid ones to go there.

Sounds like reasonable planning to me, and not as sensationalist when put into context.

Have you seen what a Chinese lock down is like?

i have, in part at least. what is the point you are making (i think i can tell, and probably agree, just want to check im nit jumping to conclusions).

I know one day's data is never significant but if you flick through the new cases for Today v Yesterday on world-o-meter you will find that many of the European countries are seeing declines in their new cases:

I just thought I'd list them, and you can check if you're interested: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

Italy declined
Spain declined
Germany declined
France declined
Switzerland up
Netherlands up
Belgium declined

Perhaps their total active cases are going up still but it does seem that there are signs across Europe that the heat has gone out of the European epidemic.
I think Italy’s definitely plateauing although death figures are horrendous today, but it’s far too early to draw any conclusions with the others. One thing’s for sure is that our figures are still accelerating as are the US.

The Chinese must be fucking bullshitting with their numbers. I am not having it that it just virtually stopped. What’s the score with the Russians? Are they bullshitting too.
All the totalitarian countries will be bullshitting. Trump would as well if the numbers weren’t coming direct from the individual states. I reckon the real death figures worldwide are at least 10 times higher but we’ll never find out.

What a depressing day of figures. It’s going to get a shit load worst too. I’ve been classed as an essential worker and still turning up, but I’m seriously thinking about telling work to ram it next week.

Just fked the job off, with hundreds more,
I must admit tho that the contractor's
Were superb, compared to what been seen in the press, regarding guys sitting in close proximity,
Entrance to site,keep 2mtrs,sanitizer a must
Canteen 4seats replaced to 1 seat, same 2mtrs to queue for food, same and smoking area,But theres some thick fkers,2mtrs more like 2incs to 20ft.
Asked the H&S guy why not send pics to media, to show how seriously weare taking precautions we have,in place.
Media don't want to no,not a good story compared to previous pics & statements from guys onsite on other sites.PANIC sell more..

There’s two options in my opinion and I’m going with number 1:

1) They’re still lying.

2) This is a worldwide conspiracy and China deliberately set it off for financial gain, they have the antidote but won’t share it.

As I’ve said I’m going for number 1.
\Two excellent theories, and both very credible right now. But there is a third option.

They had no "end game" from the lockdown, and it flares up again in two weeks.

If that doesn't happen, one of your theories is true.

My point is that their lock downs aren’t quite the same as a U.K. lock down. People welded inside apartments.

Having their temperature checked twice a day by a nurse and having to self check phone in another two times a day (happening right now in Shanghai according to a friend who lives there).

Having magnets fitted to door frames so it can be monitored if you open your front door.

They certainly aren’t fucking about.

The Lombardy situation is strange in that some regions within Lombardy had already gone on a tight lock down on the 21st February and then the Whole Lombardy region on the 8th March and yet the city of Bergamo alone today recorded an additional 602 new positive cases. Do these levels of new positive cases nearly three weeks later sound right under lockdown conditions?

Once again, the city of Bergamo saw the most new cases on Friday - 602 - with Milan in second place with 547. However, the region as a whole saw a slight dip.

"The infection rate is not growing and I think it is about to fall," said Lombardy Governor Attilio Fontana.

I think it’s particularly difficult to predict whether the virus has peaked or not in Italy because eg there have been large numbers of priests and doctors who have been infected who could have continued to inadvertently spread the virus after the lockdown was introduced. There’s also the rise in cases in Rome and the risk of the virus spreading more in the South.

As I understand it, the lockdown in Wuhan was different to that in European countries in that people found to have the virus were isolated from away from their homes in specialist medical centres / hospitals.
