I don't think the deaths could double in 24 hours at these numbers. UK numbers are all over the shop and I don't think it's for only 24 hours, just as those dips that were happening at times weren't the real numbers too. You cant go to half, than to double in 2 days, the rise is fairly regular everywhere.

I think this will be the same for every country tbh.

One thing we chatted about a lot a couple of weeks back, but I’ve not seen any posted figures on (on here I mean), is our current ICU capacity Vs the amount of people needing such care.

Do we still have “spare” capacity?

Agree that it's not accurate up to a minute anywhere, but it looks more regular for most of the countries. Even USA looks more regular with all their states reporting separately. UK goes up-down each day in very frantic manner so far.

At the same time it strikes me as a bit weird that numbers are so similar day after day in certain countries. I think they're all handling them as best they can to try to manage the hype/sensationalism.

Getting to the point where a lack of resources, staff etc... is almost inadvertently forcing us down the herd immunity route, as the testing route becomes less effective.

Might be worth focusing on the 'have you had it' test as that might be more effective at narrowing down which areas and people are more at risk.
Hmmmmm. I don't think so.

We have 25,000 known cases and people dying at the rate of 300 or 400 a day already. Let's suppose the actual infections is 100x that, and there are 2.5m infected. Waiting for 40m+ to be infected for herd immunity would mean 1,000's of people per day dying, for quite a while.

And what if there's only 10x infected? Then it's tens of thousands a day. There is no scenario where herd immunity is any kind of "solution". Absolute supression of this thing is the only way out without total carnage.

I would say things are more likely to get harsher before they get easier.

They'll ease into the services they reopen. Pubs and clubs will be the last places reopened in my opinion.

I hope they do aswell.

it’s a depressing thought that so many will go to the pubs to celebrate when so many thousands have died

We certainly do at hospitals in the Manchester area, from talking to people working at those hospitals. Not sure if the amount in other areas without outnumbers them though.

I assume for the moment we’re ok in terms of capacity, not heard any noises similar to what’s happened in Italy yet.

I think the private sector giving the NHS use of pretty much all of their health care facilities will have helped a fair bit.
