@kaz7

I know it’s the Mail but they’re using the government’s own figures.

16,000 for 25,000 that died during the peak, died not from Coronavirus but because of lockdown, in 5 weeks.
The mail is misrepresenting the figures
Which come from here

The figures themselves are actually estimates based on various assumptions. One of which is that the corona virus deaths of 25,000 are the numbers who would not have died of something else during that period or sometime later within about a year,
They are not the number of actual deaths which are higher.
he government also estimate that most of the excess deaths not formally due to cornonavirus are due to undiagnosed coronavirus or people not seeking urgent care without distinguishing between the two , both have probably happened though in what proportion is essentially unknown at present.
They are not attributing any deaths that have currently occurred as being due to lockdown as such. They do estimate knock on effects for the health service later due to lockdown and also due to being unable to access other medical services whilst covid stops the service from working properly.

I am hoping that the increase in the numbers are because of specific local outbreaks that can be contained rather than lots of individual cases that are spread across the region. We really need everyone to understand that social distancing, isolation, masks, hand washing etc are hugely crucial and need to be adhered to . No chance of sporting events having any crowds back whilst 1,000 infections a day are being reported. It was only around 6k at the peak being reported so to not have numbers down in the low hundreds by now is worrying.

So a track and trace story, our elderly neighbour sufferS with dementia and other health issues and was taken to NMGH about six weeks ago and after four weeks was moved to the convalescence unit on the grounds, to my utter shock they allowed one visit a day and my Maud who has known her for 50 years was allowed to visit two days after the semi lockdown.

Now if thar wasn’t mad enough they didn’t ask for any contact details prior to or during the visit, we got a call from the neighbours son on Wednesday to tell us his mum had contracted Covid (he had visited the day before my wife) which had been found via a blood test for other stuff, he gave them our contact details, we are now on Sunday evening with no call from our glorious track and trace program, we are never going to get on top of this as it stands.

We are in Limbo big style and Have put ourselves in a lockdown state. Piss Poor really

The T cell link posted a page ago or two is interesting again. I didn't realise the Oxford vaccine was based on producing T cell response.
Not surprised at these peaks tbf. Although social distancing is in place (as are masks), from the outside at least, life looks almost as busy as it did before the virus starting making itself known on these shores. It will be like this for some time I think. Given an earlier than anticipated vaccine we may see a turn around (not necessarily a silver bullet but the start of many form of treatments over time).
We're also getting more stories about the ineffectual (and counter productive) use of face masks and various govts beginning to use this as form of control handed to them on a plate (not my personal views btw but there's an awful lot of this around now and fanned by the likes of Peter Hitchens in the mail et al).

Certainly sending every one mad..everyone I speak to on my daily walks is pure CV19 (better than small talk weather chat I guess). I don't subscribe to the theory that we'l never get back to normal however. Noticed Pep hugging, kissing staff and players after the RM game...this is what will eventually happen. Humans have been through countless shitstorms and we'll pull through this and resign it to a dark period. We naturally get over the most abhorrent miseries in our lives.
Hopefully we'll all get that bit fitter and hygiene savvy and the data science learned through this will spur us on even further.

Turns out the advice given to the businesses that deal in close contact like beauty, hairdressing, barbers etc to wear visors was crap, now it turns out they were probably useless without a mask as well

Sky news

lets take a step back, all these case figures although they look bad lets compare where we were 3 month ago.
Deaths, the be all and all
Getting the vid now, is incomparable with 3 months ago.
Our brilliant nhs(and other countries equiv) have learnt so much and all are well better in counteracting the vid.

Yes, you get the doom merchants, now quoting the after effects(which you may well want to avoid), but the only reason you now hear this is because the fatality figures have fallen.
People must realise, the media report doom and gloom, and not a balance of good and bad news.
Same with any subject.

Track and trace has been a Shit con job from day one, world beating lol,we are not ready for every school to be open

Boris Johnson has been urged to boost the government's coronavirus test and trace scheme in order to safely reopen schools next month, with calls for teachers and students to be tested as often as once a week.

...btw...what's the story behind the govt looking at demolishing buildings if they can't contain the virus from certain spiked areas (offices, private builds et al). I'd forgotten about this and I suspect lost it in the depths of some whatsApp chat earlier: it was from the Telegraph does this tend to go full out on headline bait these days or is there anything in this? Nonsense or some kind of ulterior motive from the govt (land grab)...which then leads us down the conspiracy path once again. It does seem rather OTT. What's the ultimate end point to this? Nuke the whole bloody country?
I'll see if I can dig it out...

EDIT - here it is but it's under a pay wall so I can't read it...last resort by the looks of it.

Seems a bit extreme, can't they just hose the buildings down with hand sanitiser while singing happy birthday?

That always seemed pretty obvious to me, a visor on its own offers no protection from the sides or below unless it fits flush (rare), a cough or sneeze propels droplets in every direction, so the visor only stops stuff directed straight at it. In hospitals nurses and doctors dealing with Covid patients always wore a mask under the visor. My wife has only recently gone back to work in a dentist, they wear a resperator, with a mask over it, and a visor over that (not great when its 35C).

God that sounds awful in this heat ,you are right though, that is the only way to be sure.I think those businesses that took the advice they were given at face value would be right to have the hump,i was reading this earlier, basically a women tested positive but went to bed nail appointment two days later and lied about not having it or symptoms

Couple of days after stating new housing doesn’t need planning permission too. Does make it seem like a land grab hidden behind containment.

the think only survives 3/5 days on a surface. there is zero reason to demolish buildings.

Nobody will ever legislate for idiots, nowhere, ever, sadly, luckily I don't ever need my nails doing, so it's a risk I'll never have.

That is quite possibly one of the most sensible articles I've read since the very start. The fact that it has been pretty much completely ignored in the following 10 pages sums up this thread completely.

Something tells me if it had been a negative article the doom and gloomers would have been all over it...

its looking like it’s Maybe a fake article.
