I know what you mean, a close relative had the same happen to her several years ago when she was virtually brain dead.

However, my mother who died a few years ago had her life shortened by hospital policy about the elderly and non resuscitation after her stoke that got her there despite being mentally aware, just because of her age.

Do you think old and young people who suffer similar underlying problems but are both mentally alert will be treated the same?

No idea mate we are in uncharted waters - I honestly reckon numbers vs resources will determine where the line is drawn. We know the resources are stretched so its down to numbers which is why people need to observe the rules.

The article attempts to infer that Germany has a lower IFR. It doesn't.

No it doesn’t. It literally talks about their CASE fatality rate being lower because they do more tests:

“Another explanation for the low fatality rate is that Germany has been testing far more people than most nations. That means it catches more people with few or no symptoms, increasing the number of known cases, but not the number of fatalities.

“That automatically lowers the death rate on paper,” said Professor Kräusslich

“The reason why we in Germany have so few deaths at the moment compared to the number of infected can be largely explained by the fact that we are doing an extremely large number of lab diagnoses,” said Dr. Christian Drosten, chief virologist at Charité, whose team developed the first test.”
