COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Do you remember when we were told by the man advising the government, Vallance, that 20k deaths would be a 'good' outcome? What does this make our current toll? Literally by their own definition not good. Yet they'll still peddle how successful they've been probably.

I don't remember the poster's name but I remember someone coming on here during February time giving stark warnings about this virus and what was going to happen. I feel like I sort of owe him an apology for pisstaking. He wasn't a regular or at least wasn't at the time, hence not being able to recall the username.

I have not asked the chances of you coming into contact with an infected person

I asked if you come into contact with 10 infected people is the viral load the same as coming into contact with 1

You're applying a false set of parameters to try to justify a position then. There is no 10. There is no 1.

You started out with a suggestion about how there could have been 100 deaths from COVID-19 by end of Jan. I and others showed you why that could not be the case, because were it to be true then we would have seen many, many more deaths much sooner than we have done. One would have thought that would have been the end of the discussion but you dragged it into the viral load distraction.

By end of Feb, there were clearly not millions of people infected in the UK. The total registered cases was 23. Let me throw you a bone and say it was 100x more than that in reality (although estimates put it at between 5x and 10x, I'll give you 100x). That means 2,300 people infected across a nation of 67m people. So 0.003% of the population. Viral load doesn't come into it unless you are one of the few front line staff dealing with infected patients.

I'm glad even the staunchest defenders of the Gov't are even beginning to see the truth and be critical of them. Well, almost :)
Steady on. It’s perfectly possible to be generally supportive of the government whilst being critical of certain aspects. Nothing wrong with that. It’s a fcuk of a lot better than the dismal Desmonds who snipe at everything just because it’s Boris and the Tories and because they were shown their miserable arses over Brexit and the general election.

I understand from previous posts that a few on here, Karen7 being one I have seen that some believe they could have caught it from the trip to Wembley and that was the 1st March

I came back from the Madrid game on the 28th Feb, the game was the 26th Feb and from then I had a cough like I have never had before for a good three weeks. I also had a few night sweats where I was drenched and had to get up and have a shower. A few loose shits but no other symptoms.

At the time I put this down to excess of Madrid and the games afterwards as I went to Wembley and i also went to the Derby game and we make occasions of them. The virus was then starting to et headlines but we will never know

Maybe I am clinging

The only thing that makes me doubt was the lack of a raging fever, but like you had a couple of nights with the sweats. Then felt better but my chest started and my shortness of breath like I have not had before followed and I was on the verge of getting the doctor involved when it eased and went away.

Like others have said it was something different than I have had before. At the time the virus wasnt thought to be with us and whilst I had it never gave it a second thought. If i got the same a couple of weeks later or anytime since I would have shit myself.

As mentioned before I flew back from Malaga and ended up standing in the middle of a load of Italians bound for Milan at the airport for a good couple of hours and at that time it was already rampant in Italy and quite possibly around in Malaga.

I think by most judgements we have not done well. I don't blame anyone in particular, I think there's been mistakes made all the way along by all sorts of people. From the duff advice about herd immunity, IMO locking down too late, allowing various activities (and paradoxically barring other relatively innocuous ones), the shameful clinging to this nonsense about no benefit in face masks - doubtless influenced by the acute lack of PPE for the medical professionals. Idiotic behaviour by certain members of the public. It's not been a catalogue of disaster and cock up and it is admirable that we have managed to keep critical case load below the NHS's capacity to cope with it. The Nightingale hospitals are an inspiration.

But the bottom line is we had a 2 or 3 week advantage over Spain, France and Italy and have ended up with more dead than they have. That cannot be described as us having done well. At all.
