So that is 216 UK deaths today compared with 432 at this point from all 4 nations last Saturday. Not likely many or any out of hospital deaths will be added from England either.

I doubt the real number is under 500 today given what is clearly underreported. So that is one big number to be added mid week next week along with 2 more days where the same will occur.

161 England hospital deaths more details:

7 aged 40 - 59, 67 aged 60 - 79 and 87 aged 80 +

Regions aside from the NWs 4 (ish) Also all well below last Saturday so fairly meaningless as numbers but more instructive relative to each other.

London 44, NE/Yorks 35, Midlands 32, SE 22, East 16, SW 8

2 of the 4 in the NW were from Stockport btw.

Again for what it is worth (not a lot today)

England hospital deaths / NW total / NW % of total 3 wks v 2 wks v last wk v TODAY

315 / 55 NW / 17%

314 / 44 NW / 14%

339 / 23 NW / 7%

161 / 4 NW / 3% (and some though likely not a great deal more) TODAY

Latest Regional Weekly Pop Score table

3 SOUTH EAST 435 v 264 / UP 171 (65% up)

9 SOUTH WEST 146 v 99 / UP (46% up)

This is a good picture of the way each region is going - though recall based on SIX DAY old data. But the trend it shows is not changing much unfortunately.

NW - which was on the point of taking over number 9 (which is really TOP spot as lowest is best on this table) as SW was rising and NW was falling - has been overtaken by Yorkshire which is by far the best region at the moment in terms of numbers going in the right direction.

Such has been the uptick in NW cases (not just GM but elsewhere - indeed Merseyside is not doing great either despite what we keep being told in press conferences) that the NE is closing in over the past 6 days and night be on the verge of bumping the NW down to 6 spot.

As you can see the huge problems are being created in the England data by events in London and Eastern England - though in the past 6 days the East has risen the most. So is likely closing in on London's worst in UK title.

The Midlands as you see sandwiches the south and the north - though much closer to the north in numbers.

There are hints from tracking this that the big numbers of the new variant super spreader has moved north to the Midlands and is already starting to colonise the NW - though so far Yorkshire is not suffering in the same way and at last count had under one third the number of new variant virus cases than did the NW.

I have not seen anyone out there in the scientific community trying to explain this but it is a big reason why Yorkshire are heading for the best in England position ahead of the South West and the North West sliding in the other direction towards worrying numbers.

Though happily with a way to go in number terms and that proper measures might curb.

If and when they actually happen outside the south which seems the only area being focused on right now.

210 deaths as expected no add ons. So a well under reported number that is largely meaningless unfortunately.

Regional Scoreboard:

LONDON 8516 - down from 9790 - lowest in a week

EAST 5042 - up from 4931 - but not the highest here

SOUTH EAST 7149 - up from 6324. This IS the highest yet in the South East.

Regional Scoreboard - the north:

MIDLANDS 2551 - up from 2495

NORTH EAST 805 - down from 944

YORKSHIRE 1336 - down from 1420

But the NORTH WEST has biggest fall:- 1618 - down from 2218.

Closest NW and Yorkshire have been in a while.

Obviously testing will be limited over the holiday period too and the Lighthouse Lab outb reak may be a factor as well.

So I would treat this data with caution too.

Thought I was over the worst of it after my kidneys stopped aching. Then at 1am my skin became so irritated that I had to get out of bed for fear of waking the wife up. Now taking anti histemene tablets.Hopefully get a proper sleep tonight. Shattered.

Greater Manchester had a slightly better day and improved its percentage of NW total to 36% from 38% but still the second highest of the week.

Total cases is 262 down on yesterday to 584.

Bolton still doing startlingly well with its best numbers in months. But another borough beat it to top spot. Rather strangely that was Bury. With its lowest number in 3 or 4 months.

Not such good news for the once better boroughs like Stockport. They were down a little but well up versus last week. But it is even worse for Trafford. Recent top dog had another high number and both these two boroughs were the closest in case numbers to Manchester (which fell again and was level with Liverpool again) and was far better than Wirral again than either have been since the Summer.

Why Trafford and Stockport have started to get a little higher than they ought to be given the obvious low UK case numbers today (so these will be under estimates I suspect) is a question we need to answer.@

Is this where the new variant is most prevalent?

Total cases is 252 down on yesterday to 594 - in fact EXACTLY the same as last Saturday.

Possibly more likely that people in these areas have been nipping to Wilmslow, Poynton etc that was until recently in tier 2

In the 13 days to Sunday the 20th December 521,594 people received an NHS vaccination. Boris says we're at 800k now but we need to vaccinate at 2m per week.

In my circle, my sister-in-law has had her 1st vaccination but none of the grandparents and annoyingly our local GP surgeries have yet to start.

This was going to be a rant / exhortation to start vaccinating at a much faster rate but then I realised do we have the supply to do what we want? The papers suggest the MHRA are expected to authorise the Oxford vaccine in a couple of days so I hope this happens and that we get some clarity about the schedule and what is possible around then.

If there is a supply problem, why? Why weren't manufacturing plants repurposed by national government(s)? Remember Trump and his ventilators? The vaccines are much more important and yet we seem to be reliant on a very small number of plants fulfilling a global demand.
Good luck with that, we at the moment only have 4m doses.
Supply is currently a problem so we need the Oxford vaccine to come on stream and I just read that the BioNTech CEOis looking at licensing vaccine production.

If you really get stuck with itchy skin, germalene has a local anaesthetic. I used to use it for eczema.

My nose and eyes have been itching for months now. That and the runny nose. Random nosebleed last night as well, from the same bit right at the back of my nostril that used to itch all the time and just ended up aching. Thought I'd check if this was associated with COVID, or just general stuff. The internet helpfully identified my symptoms as commensurate with a cerebral spinal fluid leakage, probably fatal etc. As a confirmed hypochondriac, this year has been a proper nightmare.
