Across Europe, countries are easing the lockdown, hoping that it will not lead to a second wave of infections.

In France, primary schools will start with small numbers of pupils today, and clothes shops, bookshops, hair salons and florists will reopen. Restaurants, cinemas and bars will remain shut.

In Belgium, most business will open on Monday albeit with social distancing. Restaurants, bars and cafes remain closed.

In the Netherlands, primary schools will partially reopen today. Libraries, physiotherapists, driving schools and hairdressers will also open.

In Switzerland, both primary and middle schools will reopen but classes will be reduced in size. Restaurants, bookshops and museums can also open but with certain restrictions.

In some regions of Spain, gatherings of up to ten people will be allowed and outdoor spaces at restaurants can reopen with social distancing measures.

In the UK, England will ease some of the lockdown measures this week, but other parts of the UK will keep stricter guidelines.

In Denmark, shopping centres can reopen on Monday while in Poland, hotels can reopen this week - although foreign tourists would still have to quarantine for two weeks.

Other European countries like Germany, Austria and Italy have already begun easing their restrictions.

not mention the ones that are held out as shining examples who had no lockdown, Japan and South Korea.

it would extremely odd if the uk unilaterally decided to stay in lockdown for a prolonged period when every country in the world is releasing .

Our easing isn’t even that dramatic.

Certainly nothing out of left field. Everyone seems to be heading in the same direction.

When did picnicking become so important?

Every time something is mentioned, debated or advised, one of the only things addressed in detail is the restrictions on where you can and can't place a checked blanket and a flask of stewed tea.

Who the fuck is really desperate to eat their lunch in the middle of a field, so much so that it is one of the priority issues in guidance.

If want to go dogging, fucking own it and go dogging. No need to pretend you are being all Enid Blyton instead.

If you really do want to just eat your lunch, do it in your kitchen.

As I was banned from the other thread before I could explain why the government hasn't explicitly explained how R is calculated at its press briefings when responding to the claim that people shouldn't be expected to look for detailed information themselves. Here is why it's probably not a good idea to explain how R is calculated on the nightly press briefings.

"An important epidemiological understanding of 2019-nCoV is concerned with its transmissibility, quantified by the basic reproduction number R0 and the effective reproduction number R .

R0 is the expected number of secondary infectious cases generated by an infectious case in a susceptible population. R is the expected number of secondary cases generated by an infectious case once an epidemic is underway.

R= R0x,

where x∈ (0, 1) is the proportion of the population susceptible.

R is calculated as follows:
R=K2(LxD)/K(L+D)+1

where L is the average latent period, D the average latent infectious period, K the logarithmic growth rate of the case counts as reported."

I can only imagine the gasps of realisation across the nation as the chalk scratches it's way across the blackboard and reveals the equation.

edited because the forum doesn't accept mathematical notation.
This thread should be password locked. You should set a statistical test and if it’s passed you get the code to get in and read it. You won’t get many questions and you may get the prize for the shortest thread.
