Italy can not afford this, as soon as the quarantine date passes, watch the new recommendations change to: quarantine yourself if “vulnerable”. Everyone else will crack on with life, the government can’t afford to pay 16M people to sit at home for 14 days as it is.

Slowing it down will save lives but it doesn’t look like it will stop it as it’s already in half the worlds populations and they still haven’t banned travel.

I can’t see anything other than this taking out the vulnerable early. Oh and idiots buying all the non perishables in the shops leaving me to starve as I still haven’t been to the shops.

World needs a vaccine for this one IMO.

That’s maybe another point to consider.

It may be a combination of things and I think the main one is probably the age of those catching it. If the majority are in Seoul (?) I’m presuming like here their cities have a younger population than the villages in the countryside, and Italy’s cases are in the norther provinces, where there are many villages full of the elderly.
Indeed. Italy has the second largest elderly population in the world at 23%. South Korea isn’t in the top25.

Yeah now that you say it, a vaccine would be a good idea. Bet no one thought about it and is working on it since the start of the outbreak ;)

I do like how were given these guidelines, wash your hands, use a tissue to sneeze in, best to stay indoors only to be told you're probably going to get it anyway.

Shall i just bring it on and get it over with then??

Worryingly from an economics point of view this virus could easily push many countries into recession including western ones. You only have to look at stock markets and the holiday and travel industry. I have little doubt Italy will go into a recession. Hopefully it will be a short one.

The world has lost its collective fucking mind over a strain of the flu that has been shown to be nowhere near others in terms of its mortality rates yet here we are effectively locking the globe and life down over it?

Fucking ridiculous.
Good job you’re here to remind everyone that experts know fuck all, and we should all ignore them and carry on with no concerns whatsoever. Why would anyone bother taking sensible precautions when there’s only a roughly 10% chance that we’ll either die or be seriously ill before recovering if we get it?

Because that’s simply not true. Anyone making that claim is either; lying, not aware of the facts or a fucking idiot.

It’s at least one magnitude more than and possibly 30 to 40 times more lethal as per WHO and CDC.

Do you really think Italy would take the economic hit to their economy of quarantining 16 million people if this was just a normal flu? It’s not even a type of flu.
From what I can gather it is that lethal for elderly and frail people but for the younger generations it is similar to flu.
