COVID-19 — Coronavirus

I take your point mate, but it is the politicians who regretfully have to oversee the fight to navigate this crisis.
I think it might be more useful to talk about the current political response against this virus and the measures that are/should be/will be taken. By broadening the talk to past years actions and more general politic taunts not strictly related to what's going on now, we risk to lose the thread to an endless politics discussion that has little to do with the virus/pandemic.

Good job you’re here to remind everyone that experts know fuck all, and we should all ignore them and carry on with no concerns whatsoever. Why would anyone bother taking sensible precautions when there’s only a roughly 10% chance that we’ll either die or be seriously ill before recovering if we get it?
He doesn’t realise it’s already killed more than SARS and MERS combined.

From what I can gather it is that lethal for elderly and frail people but for the younger generations it is similar to flu.
The 3.4% state’s by WHO is of everyone that gets it. If you’re old AND have underlying health issues, it’s a great deal higher than that and approaching 20-30%.

If you’re under 20 then it’s likely no more fatal than Flu.

Yeah that makes sense. Italy may well have an ageing population in northern villages and I reckon SK have top notch healthcare facilities, I don’t know this and just guessing but I can imagine they do.

If the majority of cases are in Seoul then the likelihood is it’s the young that are catching it more.

I just found it strange that so many where/are dying in Italy compared to elsewhere.
The majority of deaths in South Korea actually occurred in one or two rather run down care facilities including psychiatric ones where the virus spread rapidly amoungst the patients.

Exactly the 3.4% includes every one. Take out those over 70 and it drops to about the same level as normal flu.

It's not the thread for cheap political shit-stirring though is it. If I and others are forced to respond in here it will quickly descend into just one big political row, distracting from the relevent discussion on COVID-19.
I agree that we don't need a political argument on this thread but if the numbers posted are accurate then there most likely will be an impact on the NHS's ability to cope with a widespread outbreak and the topic is therefore relevant to the discussion on this thread.

Oh and happy women's day to all women in the thread!
*gives a bouquet of coronavirus*

Yeah now that you say it, a vaccine would be a good idea. Bet no one thought about it and is working on it since the start of the outbreak ;)

Well they didn’t with SARS as it wasn’t as contagious, with this they will need it, it ain’t going to go away by closing schools and stopping going out, it will slow it down at best and it will pop up and spread somewhere else with no restrictions. This plan B won’t last long. The only logical thing to do is what has already been briefed to Boris by the sound of it (his 80% of people will get it comments), quarantine the vulnerable and crack on and make sure there is enough vaccine for vulnerable when it’s ready.

Everyone not working isn’t an option is it?
