Labour MP for Hove and Portslade, Peter Kyle, criticised the government after Boris Johnson told destination communities to welcome reopening.

In an exchange in the Commons, Mr Kyle had pressed the prime minister on how tourist hotspots can be kept safe as restrictions are eased, to which Mr Johnson said they should "show some guts and... champion their communities as venues for people to return to and support".

Mr Kyle tweeted on Thursday: "I truly wish our prime minister listened to constructive advice. His irresponsibility has consequences.

In a post on Twitter, Professor Whitty wrote: "COVID-19 has gone down due to the efforts of everyone but is still in general circulation.

"If we do not follow social distancing guidance then cases will rise again. Naturally people will want to enjoy the sun but we need to do so in a way that is safe for all

65000 people dead and he's still using language like "show some guts". The same empty bluster from months ago when he was talking about "taking it on the chin." The dickhead has learned nothing and chooses to do nothing. It's criminal.

I know,it is him telling everyone to go forth and get back to normal,the seaside towns and police don't want this,he doesn't give a shit hiding away unless there is something good to say,even then it rarely happens,fucking disgrace he is,he shouldn't want anyone to get sick with this

Either the virus is significantly weakening or health care is significantly improving. If you look at Sweden who have had the least covid prevention measures in Europe, their death rate is roughly a third of what it was in April yet roughly twice as many people are being infected now than when the death rate was at its highest. Either way its good news.
