Fuck me. Just had a message - a person in my team ( started working last week so to be honest didn't know them well but I know he was struggling with working from home for a prolonged period ) took their own life this afternoon. Married witha 4 year old kid. I have worked at home for donkeys and its been no skin off my nose and I'll be honest I have questioned all this referencing to lockdown and its effect on mental health but this is bloody close to home

They’ll be many many more mate, it’ll be disastrous for so many people. Suicides will be a huge consequence of all of this.

Very sad to here that - I'm not sure why more companies are not making it 'optional' for people to get into the office if they want. Anyone who wants to work from home can, but if you feel the need to come in you can do that. I went into the office today and it has done me the world of good.

we had spoken on the phone twice so yeeah it could be caused by a myriad of things but to do so after Johnsons speech just does feel like the straw that broke the camels back. As I say I am pretty immune to it all due to lived experience but if so this is awful. And remember this person worked or was on furlough throughout - I fear for those with real money worries

If we have an increase in suicides because people cannot go to the pub past 10pm - I'd really start to question the mental wellbeing of society at large. People are still able to get help, you cannot totally lay the blame of someone taking their own life at the feet of others.
