Sorry for my ignorance, but what do you mean by as numbers being down as expected?

Because of the large drop in the England case numbers today from yesterday so you would expect that fall of 832 in the UK total to be distributed around the regions.

Though as you can see the reduction was not evenly spread.

The GM scoreboard is even better news as it falls from that record 960 yesterday by nearly one third to 652 - more like the totals we were getting at the start of the week.

So yesterday 960 out of 2215 cases in NW and today 652 out of 1645. So from 43.5% to just under 40% of the NW total. First time GM has contrubuted that low in a while I think from the region.

It makes sense as the GM numbers are down in all 10 of the boroughs today and there are quite a few in similar number territory. Around mid 40s. The lowest today was Trafford at 37.

So this suggests from a focused pandemic in Greater Manchester we are seeing the spread around the UK given the cases have not risen exponentially in total which you would hope might mean a possible sign of slowing down.

But it is very early days to take that from threse numbers and the hospital and ventilator data which was equally promising but far from definitive of a change in direction.

All told though you would have to say - could have been a lot worse.

Some 1,700 students at the Birley campus and Cambridge Halls at Manchester Metropolitan University have been told to stay in their rooms for 14 days, even if they have no symptoms.
More than 510 cases have been identified among students and staff since universities reopened, according to data collected by Sky News up to 25 September.

I suppose dido didnt see this coming either lol

Sending Students back with mostly no lectures to go to was a really stupid decision. Almost on a par with Cheltenham.

I was in Trafford for the last few days. Seeing everyone in the queue for Sainsbury’s in Urmston wearing a mask gives a clue regarding the improvement / relatively low number of infections in the borough.

Agreed , schools or uni, open up one or the other , these are entirely forseeable consequences , i wonder if they want it to spread in the young and get it over with before the holidays and they are back home, they would deny it but you have to wonder

Interesting and no doubt there will be demographic population reasons (economic, education etc - not sure you can measure common sense).

Trafford and Stockport have been two of the three stars of the pandemic throughout not just recently. Its why they have the two best Pop Scores, Stockport was only just ahead on Trafford on cases today and second best as happens nearly all the time showing this is not just a recent feature.

Wigan was up there too but they are the real anomaly as their numbers have gone skyward in past three weeks and today actually beat all the rest bar Manchester and Bolton. THe fall of Wigan needs investigating imo as it is such a huge one it has to be instructive for the UK if we can understand what went so wrong. I am guessing Bolton played a part with those restricted there being easily able to head into Wigan for nights out. Some all but admitted this on TV. But thats speculation.

And people and the government still blame the youth for it siding. Looks like a load of middle aged idiots to me.
Yep, mostly bald heads or white hair with a lot of chunky monkeys too - got to admire them putting their money where their mouth is and not allowing their potential for morbidity to deflect their conviction that it's a hoax. My wife works in a north London Hospital so I'm sure she'll get to see a few of these in person if they are wrong.
