I think, as some have pointed out, the reported number of cases may not be that accurate. Given the shambles of the testing system, false positives, false negatives, batches being delayed etc etc. At the start of the pandemic the definition of a case in the media was generally someone who was tested in hospital, now its a much wider scope including thousands of swab tests from people with no symptoms. I don't think we can trust the so-called case figures.
The most reliable indicator must be hospitalisations and deaths, and they are increasing. I just hope we have done a better job at protecting the vulnerable groups than last time.
Agreed about hospital admissions but......

We are now entering the flu season where Pneumonia along with flu starts to be more prominent. I would like to see comparisons against last year, Pneumonia admissions v Pneumonia admissions, flu admissions v flu admissions and then look at the Clovis cases. I believe certain cases could possibly be Pneumonia or flu that has continued to happen as it has in years gone by.

I don't think we can view these metrics in isolation.

The Russians, Chinese and UAE are vaccinating key groups.

You have to balance risks associated with a vaccine that has not gone through all trial stages against the risks faced by an at-risk individual or someone frequently exposed to the virus, and who may act as an unwitting vector.

For information/background, TASS released this today...

" MOSCOW, September 28. /TASS/. Mass inoculation against the novel coronavirus infection with the Sputnik V vaccine may begin in Russia in late October, Fyodor Lisitsyn of the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian Health Ministry, said on Monday. "

Oh, I’m quite aware of the protocols, but even for Gamaleya and in China CNBG and Sinopharm, they’ve at least conducted Phase I/II trials before, even if not full Phase III. The Australian nasal spray study linked has only just completed an animal study.

Another Chinese company, Beijing Wantai, is already in Phase I human trials with its nasal spray.

Sorry to hear that. I know it's "long" covid and nobody knows,.as yet, what the long term outcome and recovery will be but I had a pneumothorax some years ago and like yourself feared for my ongoing health.
For about 3 years I suffered chest infections, panic attacks and pleurisy. Strangely enough I then started to suffer less and less, to the point now that I have had perhaps 1 chest infection in the last 10 years and no pleurisy.
All I'm trying to say is that the short term may be rough but that the symptoms may ease off.
Hope your ongoing tests give you good results
My thoughts and wishes are with you Karen.
Thank you both x

It isn't semantics when panic over a second wave is driving the current measures which is putting thousands out of work.
So, if as you say, you and some of your colleagues after crunching data believe one thing, what makes you right over the more qualified specialists in this field?

Further, if the Government were to lean towards your way of thinking and your theory was proven in time to be wrong, there would be public outcry, and rightly so.

The Governemnt are between a rock and a hard place, but they imo are taking the correct course insofar as to try and protect, not gamble with peoples lives based on the evidence presented.

By your way of thinking, we should shut down our entire economy then each autumn.

(EDIT: to be fair, i don't know that, but in terms of how dangerous covid-19 has turned out to be, that would need to be done for every bad flu season, which I think every one agrees would be ridiculous)

A government that saves money during a pandemic will win votes from accountants.

A government that saves lives will win hearts, minds and the next election.

Whatever the rights or wrongs the British people will not support sacrificing anyone over economics.

No, my way of thinking is that there are eminent scientists crunching the same data as you and have drawn a different conclusion, so I put it to you, what makes you right and them wrong, as you have been quite vociferous in claiming that they are
