No doubt a recession is looming and it will be the whole work spectrum affected but generally if you have a skill like yours or plumbing or telecoms like myself there is always work. I was lucky the 2008 recession had little or no effect on me.,and with the fttp rollout I might be equally fortunate

Funny enough I now work in telecoms and touch wood it does well regardless as it's pretty much a utility these days.

As Manchester goes into tier 3 on Friday morning can anyone confirm whether the barbers are still allowed to open? Looked on bbc and can’t make head nor tails of it, saw earlier that gyms make have to close but no idea if that’s correct as I assumed they didn’t have to.
Information is pretty poor as usual by these fucking clowns.
Johnson himself said gyms would shut in yesterday’s announcement on tv.

All fair points I suppose. I do think this "how will it affect my mental health" type of line is way overplayed however. Being a bit worried and pissed off for a few months does not mean mental illness, just that you're worried and pissed off. (Not that you were saying that, to be clear, but many are.)
There seems to be a distinct lack of mental strength nowadays with many people who seem to buckle under the slightest pressure. I don't know what to put it down to but the advent of social media is high on my list as well as recreational drug use

Human challenge trials have started

You have to be 20-25 , white and in good health

You get a trial vaccine then you are given covid and see what happens

You get 4 grand for being a volunteer

There are currently 73 people in ICU in Scotland with Covid. The last time the figure was this high was May 10th (75 people).

800 other people in hospital (not ICU) in Scotland. Highest figure since May 26, although back then there was a different way of calculating the figure so in that respect today's figure might be quite a bit of an underestimate. I've no idea how high the figure would be under the old recording system.

Coronavirus will be around for "evermore" and is unlikely to be eradicated, a scientist advising the government on the pandemic has said.

Professor John Edmunds, a member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE), also said the UK can expect tens of thousands of deaths from the second wave of coronavirus in what is a "bleak" situation.

Not according to Nature.

They say the first part of the trial is to determine the dose necessary to induce infection. Those volunteers will not be vaccinated at all.

It's unclear whether later arms will include placebo, so unvaccinated subjects, once the infectious dose has been determined.
