COVID-19 — Coronavirus

What really needs to happen, is no travel unless essential beyond say 10 miles, this can be policed to a degree, by ANPR, even if not directly by the on duty police, it already checks for insurance and tax, so tweak it, check where people are going.

Obviously it won't stop neighbours visiting neighbours, but it would stop violations from one town in restrictions to another not. Won't catch all, but it would deter.
Do you work from home?

it’s upsetting no one has the energy now to appreciate the work all these doctors and nurses continue to do.
I agree but it is understandable.

As I suggested a few days ago in here the government could regain some goodwill (and it sure needs to do) by announcing that there will be a Covid Heroes day or some such that will be an annual celebration - perhaps they could choose the day lockdown started.

To come into force each year once the virus is gone.

And that all health care workers and others who were on the front line got a free extra days holiday with pay either on that day or another day in lieu.

Then on the actual day everyone else who knows a front line worker annually offers to help them - eg gardeners doing their lawn for free - or just offering one in your street to do the shopping for them if they are working. Just a small thank you as the theme of that annual day.

We should not forget them and something like this is the best way.

Someone will win an OBE for coming up with this idea no doubt out there and pressuring for it to happen as it is an obvious least thing we could do. But that should not be necessary and the government could win some kudos by saying it now themselves.

Unfortunately why do I cynically think that they seem more likely to tell in private someone like Dominic Cummings to come up with this as a 'brilliant idea' and give him a knighthood.

It has not been rushed. It's a normal phase 3 trial. It's being done properly.

nothing normal about producing millions of doses and then having the trials to fit, of course they are going to pursue it regardless because there's too much invested in it and too much to gain long-term with the long-term effects.

Sorry but this isn't right. normally it takes around 5-10 years to create and test a vaccine. Phase 3 alone is usually 2-4 years. this absolutely has been rushed.

Isn't that more for an effective 'silver bullet' vaccine (and we're told repeatedly that the first vaccines won't provide that) rather than the long term safety studies?
I don't know....just find all this interesting. I'm sandwiched between thinking a vaccines is only the only way out of this utter detritus of a virus (and for the most vulnerable first) and would I personally take a vaccine once the phase 3 trials have successfully completed.
