The wider question is that if she has been told to stay indoors why are 600+ going into Parliament when the Prime Minister and others were also in direct contact?
I had to laugh when i was listening to some MP on the radio earlier. He said parliament would continue regardless. we didnt close parliament in the war and we wouldnt let a threat like this do soemthing bombs and war couldnt. These are the people running our country. Stiff upper lip, we are great britain and as island nation, we wont be beaten by this threat.

You might want to extend your stay!!

I just checked the stats - there are only 2 cases reported in Cyprus - no deaths

I am due to go there after the RM game for a break

Seriously thinking about taking the wife and daughter out there for a couple of weeks to self-isolate - actually much easier to do that there than in the UK and less risk.

Might be just worth being somewhere 'safer' to just monitor how things develop in the UK over the next weeks which I think will be when the greatest risk will occur
Vs the worry about what happens if it does take off whilst you are out there, and either you cannot get back and/or the medical services there cannot cope? Interesting dilemma.

I hope this is true.

strange there was a limit in the 1st place!
I think its a capacity problem rather than rationing of any kind - ie they need laboratories to run the tests and up to that point they only had the means of testing 1500 per day. Presumably they have added other laboratories now to help cope with the anticipated demand.

Probably not for those in zero hours contracts or even those who have a basic hrs contract but get regular extra hours - a lot exist pay packet to pay packet. Then there's the self employed and contractors.
Yes, I'm self-employed with too much debt and little in the way of savings, I can probably do a limited amount from home but I'm likely to take a significant drop in income if I have to self-isolate. Having looked at Universal Credit it seems to be a complicated calculation for long-term self-employed people to claim, they work out something called a minimum floor income and - wait for it - if your income drops below that level in a month you get no additional benefit!

Yeah, I get that mate. My post was in response to ‘not believing a word the Chinese say’. Whilst we could never replicate it, I think their response to this has been pretty amazing. That’s as much Chinese society than the government that have put the restrictions in place. I would be interested in what the South Koreans have done. I have to admit I find it pretty scary that we may be just a couple of weeks behind Italy. I was following a tweet thread from an Italian medic this morning and if you believe what he was saying, Lombardy health service is in meltdown because of the numbers that require ICU. The elderly are being triaged according to potential outcome. Not everyone is getting treated. I know it’s twitter but bloody hell it was intense if true. We really need to be thinking hard as individuals how we should modify our life over the next few weeks to try and slow this down. Doesn’t matter if young or old, this has the potential to hurt any of us be it personally, our parents or our grandparents.
Absolutely spot on.

The arrogant pricks being interviewed at Cheltenham saying literally "couldn't give a stuff", should be fucking ashamed of themselves. I can only hope such are at the bottom of the queue for an ICU bed, but sadly I suspect they won't be.

how does staying in doors stop the spreading of the virus ??? if its in the air and can live for 2 weeks or longer in the atmosphere and maybe longer in animals and birds and pets, so the truth is we don't know ? the panic buying and stocking up will be useless any way, so unless you have a oxygen tank and a cleaning station and fresh clean water your chances of catching it from breathing or through your skin or eyes is just about the same as contact between people
Whilst there is some evidence of spreading through the air, that's in enclosed spaces like buses and planes with other infected people and we are talking about a few metres. Not standing in an open field and someone coughing half a mile away.

By FAR the biggest way to catch it is from droplets of mucus from people coughing and from touching surfaces that infected people with crap on their hands have recently touched, which you then get on your hands and then rub your nose or eyes etc.

If you have no-one infected in your home and you wash your hands as soon as you walk through the door, then you are not going to catch it whilst staying in.
