The Virus was causing mayhem in China and parts of Europe for weeks before it arrived here!
They had plenty of time to close the borders and ban flights but they missed a trick and obviously the $ is king!
Just to slightly correct you, it
had caused mayhem in China, but they'd welded people into their apartment blocks by then, so it was slowing there.
It was just appearing in europe (mainly northern Italy), and our schools were on half term, and many were either skiing in the Alps, or on the beach in Spain, so those on holiday didn't know they were being infected. We then had Cheltenham, the Atletico Madrid game in Liverpool, and a certain cup final in what turned out 2 weeks later to be covid central, wembley, where 80,000+ mixed with the locals who were already infected but nobody knew the extent of it (one of the local hospitals became overwhelmed about 3 weeks later).
We should have acted earlier then, and we should have acted better, and earlier now, so we have caused our own problems to a degree, but it got in here big time without us realising, then we helped spread it round for too long. Not closing the borders was a mistake, but we are a major world hub for international trouble, so it was financial.
Had they got a decent test track and trace system, and more importantly made it work, and
made the people +ve isolate, then we
might not be in this new lockdown, though Germany suggests we still might have been, where they had it working, and are still in a mess.
