Panic buying is one of those things where there are enough irrational people that it makes the irrational thing rational. If you don't panic buy then when you want to buy something normally, it's no longer available. But by making that now sensible decision to stock up, you become one of the idiots contributing to the problem.

In a nutshell, as unwell as I am it's even making me feel the need to venture out tonight to pick up a few essentials. Which wouldn't be smart as I have some sort of flu (probably not the virus but who knows).

And there is one of the issues that exists with controlling spread in an non-authoritarian nation and why we will never be able to take the same measures as China.

(Note: I am in no way advocating for authoritarian government or condoning all of the actions China took, even in this situation, just pointing out why believing we could take similar measures, if needed, was folly.)
