Absolutely nuts IMO, that. What do they think 4,000 people will do before, during and after sports event - file in carefully 2M apart, sit down with a mask on then file out carefully afterwards?

Interested to see what the rationale behind it is, and impossible to justify whilst no more than six people can meet together indoors, which IIRC was the old tier one, and presumably still the new tier one (said to be more, not less stringent).

They may have all driven there in their sunroof cars

• Tier three will now mean hospitality will close except for delivery and takeaway and indoor entertainment venues must also close

Interesting to watch the take of the USA broadcast media on the Astra Zeneca vaccine.
Very praiseworthy of the ease of storage and distribution and the non profit stance of AZ, the relatively cheap price and their stated objective of distribution to all countries.
Not so convinced about the size of their test data ( much less than Pfizer and Moderna) and the 62% vs 90% efficacy issue. They still regard this as very much work in progress and are uncertain whether it will get FDA approval at this stage.
IMO if that higher efficacy rate is proved anywhere near correct using a bigger sample then AZ have definitely got a winner.

Can anyone remember how an area is put into a tier? 7 day average of cases per 100k? and what are the tier thresholds? (100/200/400 or something)

I can’t see any major cities being in Tier 1 as still too much of it about.

There will be some uproar when these are announced I’ll bet! Boris has just said more areas will fall into higher tiers than previously. Bet Manchester stays in Tier 3

I cant see many being in tier 2 listening to Boris' speech

The PM says he's "sorry to say" more areas will fall into higher levels of restrictions than they were in previously, at least temporarily.

They need to be specific about what gets you into tier 1, 2 or 3 rather than just make it up as they go along.
