I got flamed earlier but I have no doubt this current hysteria has been stoked up by the UK government politicians (not scientists) simply as a justification for another u-turn and the shitstorm it has put us in as a result is unforgiveable.

This ‘new mutant strain’ has clearly been around ages and the govt just decided it would be an opportune time to wheel it out to facilitate project fear and justify another U-turn and cancelling christmas. Purely a propoganda lever but look at the damage it is causing. Scandalous

Surely if people wash their hands, avoid social contact where possible, attempt social distancing etc then it doesn't matter how contagious this new strain is. Am I being too sensible

No, unless it's found a new way to be transmitted as well.
