Swansea data:

Enough now after 7 days to do daily Pop scores - though Wales restricted data publication may scupper that over the next week or so. We will see.

Good news btw!

Cases 168 - down from 254 to lowest since I have been tracking it for you. Total cases 12, 723.

Pop score up 68 to 5151 - lowest rise in the past week of tracking

Weekly Pop score is 698. Which is not great but is in the range of where more than one GM borough was two months ago and all are now well below there. So it can be done.

As I posted above, nobody on here (unless you work for an airline) knows who is on those planes, many of them will be brits that work abroad, many people work in the chemical, oil, and gas industry in the US and other countries, for companies from here and abroad.

I also know we have military personnel in the US and Canada, who have to use commercial flights, similar story in and around the Gulf.

Should we just tell them "fuck you" you can't come home, and before you say "use military aircraft" there are not nearly enough to go round given the numbers of people in posts around the world, which is why they have use commercial flights, and not to mention the civilian workers abroad.
I was going on out trips abroad in February - To the Alps for skiing - Look what they brought back! Also from July till October. The prior top strain - 80% of cases at the start of November - coming from Spain.

GM scoreboard:

943 cases - down from 997. 33-5 % of NW total of 2812

3 wks v 2 wks v last wk v TODAY: 652 v 652 v 679 v 943 TODAY Not a great track. But no surprise.

MANCHESTER 165 - down from 236. Total cases 34, 577. Weekly 1146. Pop score up 30 to 6254. Weekly Pop up 2 to 207.

WIGAN 110 - up from 67. Total cases 18, 465. Weekly 515. Pop score up 33 to 5618. Weekly Pop up 15 to 156.

TRAFFORD 110 - up from 84. Total cases 9822. Weekly 504. Pop score up 46 to 4138. Highest Pop rise in ages here. Weekly Pop up 22 to 212 - worse than Manchester after being 100 lower not long ago. This is the highest numbers in Trafford in 6 weeks.

SALFORD 106 - up from 95. Total cases 14, 834. Weekly 563. Pop score up 41 to 5731. Weekly Pop up 24 to 217.

ROCHDALE 102 - up from 92. Total cases 14, 268. Weekly 490. Pop score up 46 to 6415. Weekly Pop up 13 to 220.

BURY 86 - up from 77. Total cases 11, 153. Weekly 443. Pop score up 45 to 5840. Weekly pop 25 to 232.

STOCKPORT 79 - down from 124. Total cases 11, 851. Weekly 516. Pop score up 27 to 4039. Weekly Pop up 8 to 176. Despite the big fall cases still higher than last week is why. Increased the lead for best Pop Score over Trafford from 80 to 99! I predicted Trafford would have caught Stockport by Christmas. Got that wrong.

BOLTON 62 - down from 67. Total cases 16, 609. Weekly 415. Pop score up 21 to 5776. Lowest rise in GM today and with a Weekly Pop down 3 to 144. Bolton now best Pop in GM. After having the worst in the autumn.

OLDHAM 62 - down from 78. Total cases 16, 241. Weekly 437. Pop score up 27 to 6850. Weekly Pop down 5 to 185. Oldham is another bad boy turned good. Whilst the good girls go bad!

TAMESIDE 61 - down from 77. Total cases 11, 359. Weekly 353. Best in GM but amazingly Bolton is coming after that title too! Pop score up 27 to mar the day a tad by taking Tameside into the 5000 club at 5015. Weekly Pop up 7 to 156.

What you actually said....

Because the government's travel policy - driven by the London elite and chattering classes is a heap of schidt.
We should have banned all air travel to the UK in mid February and never released it.
"Never" from mid Feb includes now, so effectively no air travel at all for 10 months ? A totally unrealistic ambition, because people have to travel for work as I posted.

Not really mate. The vast majority of people don’t need to travel internationally for work during a global pandemic. A lot of journeys could be replaced by zoom meetings etc. That includes collaboration on military matters thst doesn’t involve combat.

WEEKLY POP SCORES FOR GM:

Pop sore is cases measured per 100, 000 people smoothing out different populations between places to make a measure that can judge each against the other.

Lowest number is best, highest number worst. Going down is good as cases falling week to week, going up bad as cases rising week to week.

TODAY v LAST WEEK v FALL OR RISE

BOLTON 144 - was 157 - Down 13

WIGAN 156 - was 172 - Down 16

TAMESIDE 156 - was 100 - UP 56

STOCKPORT 176 - was 113 - UP 63

OLDHAM`185 - was 196 - Down 11

MANCHESTER 207 - was 173 - UP 34

TRAFFORD 212 - was 134 - UP 78.

SALFORD 217 - was 157 - UP 60

ROCHDALE 220 - was 209 - UP 11

BURY 232 - was 187 - UP 45

As you can see some big rises in 7 days in the areas that were doing well. Half the boroughs are over 200 when there were none a week ago. And nobody close to being below 100 when two were two weeks ago with a third on the verge of doing so.

Things have gone in the wrong direction for some days now.

If you work in the chemical, oil, and gas industries you need to be on site for engineering etc, they don't turn up, then they lose their jobs.

The military are carrying out various operations from combat, to peace keeping, to training, to security, all across the world, and you can't do that "online", and they need support staff on site to feed them, give medical care etc, in many of those places you can't trust locals.

It's easy to say "no travel", but a country like ours is deeply involved in many things across the world, it's much easier for the likes of New Zealand, and The Isle of Man to shut themselves off from the world, for one they have small populations.

Anyhow off for the night. Will post what I can over next few days but not as much or as often and data will be less than usual with only England promising data every day and Scotland missing several days at a time in next 10 days

Like me take a break from the stress to enjoy what you can of Christmas and make it as happy and as safe as you possibly can.

But do take care if meeting elderly or otherwise vulnerable younger friends and relatives and having a few bevvies with the mince pies as that is when you both might forget why it matters to - as they used to say on Hill Street Blues - be careful out there.

A Boxing Day hangover is bad enough but transient. Do not accidentally create a new year that you will live with forever in regret.

Happy Christmas all.

It could well be the more infectious strain like you suggested but there has been a deterioration in attitudes regarding Covid safety measures.
