sorry but in some cases the “hindsight is 20:20” argument just doesn’t hold water. Certainly in the very early days of this when China had locked down and you had the WHO shouting that everyone needed to take note ( while also being slow with the pandemic term) plenty of people on here were saying we needed to be taking it seriously while Boris was fobbing it off and saying he wouldn’t stop shaking hands for it etc etc.
there is certainly grounds for people to be questioning how we are handling it in some ways.
the only economy vs lives tho was always going to be a no win situation.

I have Fears for Tiers. Have the tier 4 with primary school closures effectively become Tier 5 or Tier 4 plus??

Woke up to the news I am on tier 4 also now. But nothing changes for me. I will leave the house to go shopping and, from the week after next, to do the school run. I've effectively been living as if in tier 4 anyway it seems.
Even if we'd had babysitting options then we'd not have been out tonight, gave up on NYE many years back. But I hear of people who were planning on a night out on Liverpool and other ex tier 2 areas, they seem a little mad that their nights out have been cancelled. So maybe there is a point to tier 4 after all.
The covid-19 app does suggest that going for a walk around the block is now not allowed though?
I hope this tier 4 makes a difference, but I think it is the vaccine or nothing at this point. A section of those who were not following the rules yesterday will still not follow them today. Tier 3 or 4 makes no difference for them and their behaviours either, just that theirs are on the other side of the line to mine and the majority. But maybe in the middle there is a section who have become more complacent and will alter their behaviours now, after all if we're testing 40k and more positive per day it's hard to blame the teen-agers, a few idiots or just those who want follow rules regardless.
But I suppose from the government point of view what else can they do besides police a full lockdown and deals with the ensuing panic, rule breaking and demonstrations thereafter? The last lockdown was like normal working days around near us, nothing like the first, with normal rush hour traffic during the school run and shops as busy as usual. Society in general has become more complacent over living with this virus at just the worst time for it to spread faster.
So here's hoping for a crap January, it's too late for anything else I fear, but getting our lives back after that :)
