When I read 981 the other day I thought I’d read it wrong and took another glance.I agree. The numbers are upsetting, but so would the number of cancer deaths every day, or road deaths, or victims of domestic violence, or still births. But we don’t hear about those on a daily basis. If we did we would become desensitised to those too. Personally I think the huge and rapid rise in deaths has jolted people a little. Maybe not made them any more caring about others, but maybe more frightened for themselves.
