I will neither confirm nor deny this is a recent picture from a family gathering.

Ahhhhh bush-a-tucker: Break out the Wok.

thing is the death toll across the world is just past 1100. In the US alone it was being reported in December that there had already been 1300 deaths in the States as their "flu season" began.
See the previous discussion in the thread about why both ‘seasonal flu’ and COVID-19 should be taken seriously, but for different reasons.

The COVID-19 outbreak is a very different situation with a much higher potential impact than ‘seasonal flu’ to China and elsewhere if it progresses as it has, even ignoring that the official numbers are likely much lower than actual confirmed cases, deaths, incapacitation rates, and overall global transmission. ‘Seasonal flu’ metrics are going to be substantially more accurate than COVID-19 metrics for some time to come, with the latter almost certainly being underreported.

WHO

44,733 cases in china alone,1.114 deaths

Confirms it came from animals in china

Many more must have died of what they thought was normal flu,we might never know the true numbers
we cant rely on the information given up by the chinese,we will have a better idea if/when it becomes pandemic, there were reports that the chinese figures could be distorted in favour to stop panic,i was reading that they have been disposing of bodies with no funerals and not documenting them so its all if and when but i just read its in the canary islands,i would just add that the cruise ship thats docked up would probably give us a better idea on percentages as its like a small community on its own and i think its over 100 now infected

I wouldn't be surprised if you are right,i think all governments would try and cover things up,trouble is it's a global world and anyone can travel wherever they wantso it was never going to stay there,i don't know what their healthcare is like but hopefully we won't get any deaths over here

well if you mean mainland china health care which i think you do then the deeper your pockets the better you get treated if you have nothing then you get nothing, i remember a freind went out there somewhere not quite sure of the place and a 4/5 year old fell into the swimming pool and was drowning, no one would jump in and save the child because it made you liable for the medical expence, shocking really when you think about it

So a GP diagnosed with the virus then went and did a full shift at a hospital even though he knew he had it ?

That’s fucked up

That's really bad, people moan about the nhs but we are so very lucky in this country,i hope we never lose it

1st case in london confirmed,he had 6 days in hospital, now fine

We should *hopefully* be seeing more mild confirmed cases now, in addition to the severe cases (which lead to long periods of incapacitation and/or death), which will help researchers get a better understanding of the actual virulence.

That said, outcomes in UK will be “best case” metrics, because we have a strong, fairly responsive health care system compared to most of the world, and so they are not going to represent an ‘average’ outcome across the globe if a person were to be infected.
