It’s free country you can do what you want, if you personally think it’s a real worry personally for you, then stock up and stay in until it blows over.

nobody is forcing you to travel or go to a large gathering. If you stay in your house you won’t be affected by anyone that does.

nobody is stopping you choosing to take this action if you so wish.

I never suggested otherwise.

My concern is whether or not this is being tackled in the most effective way. I personally do not have much faith in our government but thats my opinion and wont be shared by all.

As for my personal movements given that I would be classed as at risk, of course I am now having to think about where and when I go to places. For example I will now only go to the supermarket late on when there are fewer people around. I wont be going to the pub.

I am already pretty much on lockdown as will many for whom the risks attached to this virus are quite serious.

Brace yourselves, it’s going to explode now. It’s well past the point of it being containable in this country. I remember when this thread was 20-30 pages long and was a bit of a joke. We’ll be locking down towns/cities within a few months, maybe less. NHS will be at breaking point, so if you don’t get it early there will be no treatment, you’ll just have to lock yourself in at home and wait to see what happens.
Eh, I wouldn't be so doom & gloom. We're waaay past your number of cases and still holding on, our medical system is still working. It isn't a situation to take lightly and it's complicated to organise, but if even our government can do it I'd expect yours to do better.

You’ve been self-isolating in the Castellana Grotte without a connection to the outside world, haven’t you? ;-)

Possibly true

I agree with her here, if we'd nuked Hubei province to a sheet of glass when the initial outbreak happened, sure people would say it was a bit over the top/genocidal/insane whatever, but we wouldn't be having these issues now and we'd only have 58.5 million dead.

My daughter runs a medical centre in a hosptal in London (wont say which one) met up for wembley on Sunday. She said 3 of her staff taken off her dept to check people coming thru the doors for Covid-19, by Last Friday they had 20 suspected cases of which 8 were confirmed 4 were told to self isolate 4 were serious and kept in hospital, so the official figures the govt are giving out are a nonsense if we exstrapolate this across all hospitals, doctors, medical centres etc..... !!!! Said its bedlam trying to cope at the moment and set to get worse.
But why would the government want to downplay the severity of the outbreak to such an extent? If it’s that bad it just would not be possible for them to keep a lid on it for any length of time. How long will it be before someone from your daughter’s medical goes to the media?

proportionate response, small price to pay...

Aw come on, you know we're the masters of disorganised, petty, generally bad governments. It takes years to reach our level. Even if you now have an ugly guy in charge, you still have residual competence and organisation in your country.

Residual is a great way to describe it.

But I’ll go back on topic as I don’t want to be the index patient that leads to this thread being quarantined, especially as I’ll be the one having to bloody do it! ;-)

We don’t have the geography to make it feasible to lock down individual towns and cities. If there’s a serious outbreak in Manchester where would the quarantine arrangements end? It might be possible to quarantine a few cities, perhaps York, but most of non rural England is an urban sprawl.
