I suspect that had a lot to do with the obesity problem in the US.

And if people are using there medical insurance ect to just get treated at hospital when they could have waited it out at home. Need more data to be able to make a more informed opinion.

I'm in Spain in total lockdown (5th day) only allowed to food shop, chemist or a quick walk around the block to take the dogs out. Can only go on your own, not allowed to chat to anyone and if you need to take your car, only you and no passengers unless you are a carer.
A group of friends were chatting in a supermarket the other day, police fined them 1500 euro.
Watching UK tv i just don't understand why the UK is dithering, close all public places. All i see is pubs & restaurants complaining they will lose business and wont be able to carry on...well welcome to the club.Better to be out of work than ill or worse. We are in the tourist industry and will have no visitors guesstamate for 18 - 24 months and can not claim unemployment so we have to suck it up. This is just the beginning of a long drawn out battle

there is another option which is what the Portuguese president passed last night introducing emergency powers but will only be invoked if the people do not stick to the rules of social distancing whilst closing schools and pubs etc. To be fair they have been really good in complying so far...different mindset to the UK and France though here, they are generally very compliant to government dictates.

A worrying stat for me was that 38% of all Americans admitted to hospital were between the age of 20 and 54.

Are the Chinese numbers to be believed? I find it inconceivable that 80,000 people could have it and then a few weeks later it has virtually stopped. I get that they used draconian measures but won’t a lot of these people in Wuhan have travelled to Beijing before it really took off and caused it to spread like wildfire. It has caused more problems in Italy than China which I find really odd and makes me question these numbers.

Could be testing. In general the advanced countries on SE Asia: Japan, China, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan all seem to have been successful in stopping it.

You can be sceptical about the Chinese data but they couldn't keep Wuhan quiet and would not be able to keep an infection in Shanghai or Beijing quiet. It would be very obvious.

The only people you ever see with masks on in the UK, are Chinese, Koreans etc. Were they traumatised by SARs (much more deadly)? I don't know the reason why but these nationalities seem to be much more aware about disease in general. People say they wear masks to stop pollution but their people wear them in the UK, and we don't have a major pollution problem.

Lack of clarity and relying on a self interested and frankly stupid general public(Not all) to do the right thing isn't on page one of any emergency avoidance manual.

Probably the same people who moan about tickets, pies and queues, it is unprecedented, unique and terrible nobody has the answers, even two weeks ago we did not know what the situation would be today, we do not know what will happen in the future when or if it mutates

I know it seems strange but things they change
