my lad and his gf spend a few days with us and a few days at her parents.

If both sets of parents are confined to base, but bf and gf are not, they could choose between who's easier to live with, and who you want least to infect.

I know one retired guy who's contemplating going to live with 87-y-o mother to keep her company "for the duration" - but if he goes out, he could bring the virus to her.

Our Jodie has just arrived back from the Sates and is travelling back from Euston to Crewe. She is the only passenger in her carriage !!

Both sets of parents are self isolating....to be safe but my lad came back to us to get some stuff when she phoned , so he stayed here with us , and she is with her parents. But as she isnt with us at the moment the government sort of says we shouldn't self isolate, but she was 36 hrs before getting symptoms ! . So work might not pay us as I guess we wont get an isolation note. But we feel we are doing the right thing. The pharmacy said we should self isolate

Quick point, if any of you know people with mental health issues try and check in with them. My sister has bipolar and has to take meds for life, she has a few issues in her life and self isolated for a week. I got a text on Friday saying she’s thinking about killing herself and has all the pills lined up. This is going to severely mess with people’s mental health.

South Korea had advantages that we and the rest of the West didnt.

They had the MERS outbreaks in 2018 and 2015, SARS in 2003 and were hit properly by Swine flu in 2009.

So they have infrastructure that other countries dont, but also they have a massive cultural difference that we just dont have in this country because it's our first big pandemic in living memory.

And it's that cultural difference that matters.

And no western government, in all the emergency planning, and practising for bird flu, bothered to study those incidents? The cultural difference is probably latent imperialism, and bloody false memories of a blitz that most people can't remember.

It stated with a skier coming back from holiday in Northern Italy, he then went to church the following Sunday and spread it to many members of his local church and they spread it to their friends who spread it to doctors surgeries, charity shops and schools.
Most of the spread occured before people had symptoms. Indeed I have caught it from a doctors surgery known to be effected.
30 dead so far.
The only good news is that most of the medical staff who caught it will be fit again to help manage the charnel house that will be with us soon.

To quote a doctor friend if mine, "The policy of not enforcing the wearing of surgical masks in the west is clearly a dreadful decision. As a result the virus is spreading 3 times faster in the west than in China or South Korea." The first purpose of a surgical mask is to stop the wearer spreading disease to others. Packed conditions on public transport without masks probably means everyone on the train/tram/bus instantly becomes a super spreader.
