It's a mix, isn't it. It's easy to get your back up from something someone says one day that doesn't matter the next. Being able to go through that when talking about these issues seems to have been pretty healthy, it's good to remember that it's rarely worth getting too worked up about one moment or argument, because there'll be different ones tomorrow, and the day after.
I always take it for what it is, the internet. There are some great people on here and many that have helped me through some dark times. Sorry to hear about your loss.

Some people are pointing out that the care homes are almost working as an extension of the NHS during this. But they don't get access to the resources, or as much love from the public, or attention in the press.

Yeah
I remember the wards in hospitals that they used to have for the elderly, probably back in the 70s. My mum was in a psychiatric ward at about the same time (she was only mid 20s then, and got out eventually). They were both pretty horrible but now both strands seem to have been forgotten and "parked."

On a more serious note, my mother died in a care home on Wednesday, and I've heard an awful lot of ambulances driving around today. Thanks to everyone for making this such a decent place to hang out and deal with the pandmeic, it's helped me stay in a good frame of mind.
Really sorry to hear that

Just before everyone completely looses their logical minds.

Population in Millions roughly:
Germany 83
UK 67 (add 10 more for illegals if you like)
France 65
Italy 60
Spain 46

Germany are the outlier when it comes to deaths as they have some magic beans or something.

Everyone else: total mortalities will eventually be proportional to population size unless you fuck up.

So yes the UK will have higher weekly totals than both Italy and Spain and eventually a higher number of deaths.

The virus really doesn't give a shit about how severe your "lockdown" is. It will get you in the end. Lockdowns just slow it a bit.

By the way, exactly what kind of lockdowns are there in Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Sweden (yeah we know9, France? And how effective is the lockdown in Spain right now?

BosnianBlue lives in a country where the perception of personal freedom is very different to the UK. It shows in his/her posts as a disregard for the delicacy shown by the UK government. That is an observation not a criticism by the way.

I live in Switzerland and the park has been full all day today.

It is what it is and it will end where it ends. You can let that hurt you and scream about it or you can be a little stoic. If enough people scream no-one will be able to hear the occasional words of wisdom over the din.

I'm cracking open the chateaupneuf du pape and thinking of those I love and love me tonight. How about you?
Don't agree at all. There's no way we are allowing 66m people in the UK to catch this, unvaccinated.

We are delaying it until a vaccine comes.

Antibody tests being tested,no results yet

ONS figures v NHS figures question
NHS figures easier to get, real time data on proven positive patients
ONS takes longer to come in and covers patients not necessary tested
The NHS figures is what they are making decisions on at the moment

Stay strong mate.

Think of the good times you had with her.

Unless it’s a China style your doors are getting welded shut lockdown, it is not going to go away. It isn’t going to in Spain, Italy or America. Until there is a cure or vaccine the best we can do is not overwhelm the NHS. All my opinion of course but I can’t see how we can realistically completely get rid of it, unless it behaves like other viruses and dies off in summer, where ironically it’s everyone being outside that would kill it.

I don't think it's going to be a long term threat. The immune system defeats the virus in the vast majority (99%) of cases and it's likely that a large number have already had it.

It needs to be remembered that we test a football ground the size of Bournemouths stadium (11,000) per day.... That's not even 0.1% of the population and the rest aren't tested because their symptoms aren't severe enough or they have no symptoms at all.

The key is the testing. Germany has 100,000+ cases but only 2500 deaths. My bet is we must have a far greater number infected to have the death rate we have, probably well into the millions.

As more are infected and recover they can't pass the infection on and with continuous social distancing etc for a period... That's the virus mostly eradicated.

I see ASDA are tightening up requirements for NHS employees wanting to get priority in the queues....

You see, that's sexual discrimination against the male employees. No mention of what they've got to show.

New York appealing for blood plasma from recovered patients for use in treatments.

Again NY hospitalisation data has fallen dramatically. It's gone from 1,000 a day to 200 a day in less than a week.

Their deaths go ever upwards but the epidemic in New York is clearly coming to an end.

Staggering really. Cuomo was keen to stress that they can not and must not let up but he must have very mixed emotions. Deaths go every upwards because they relate to admissions made 14 days ago when the epidemic was nearing its peak. In a week or so New York death figures should start to fall rapidly reflecting the current drop in hospitalisations.

I know it's not the UK but it shows that it is possible. And it will have a knock-on effect on the UK economically and medically. The UK now has its own 90 minute test but the 15 minute test they have might become available for export once they have their own house in order.

I think you'll find that the US will be lifting its lockdown very quickly.

Best wishes to everyone for Easter. Be nice to each other.

Condolences sb. Remember the good times, bin any bad ones.

How've New York managed that? I've maybe not been following the states as much as I should but it feels like only a few days ago that the new cases were flying through the roof.

It sort of feels like we're one of only a few western country's which are still getting worse.
