COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Bit late to the cycling-debate and I know it’s venturing away from the original topic but the best all-around solution is to build more cycle lanes. I’ve spent time in Denmark and my relatives told me to just use a bike if I’m not venturing too far away. Even outside Copenhagen they were everywhere.

It got to a point where there were literally cycle lanes alongside what we would consider dual carriageways. Keeps everybody safe and happy.

Good morning everyone. How are we all today?
Thanks for asking.

I'm chewing over William Davies's essay in Saturday's Guardian Review (not online it seems) about the NHS suddenly being flavour of the month among people who quite fancied demolishing it or selling it off.

Also, Covid affects Brexit Britain less than the Remainer cities (centres of international connectivity and commercial activity where the virus would spread more than in Leave areas where disconnection and alienation reduce the risk of infection). Bit of a leap to a conclusion there, but I think he's right about rightwingers who "gave not a hoot for GDP when it came to Brexit suddenly expressing their concern for Britain's economy when it comes to coronavirus". And that Johnson and Trump represent people who believe in hard work but don't do much of the unpleasant stuff themselves, either for reasons of wealth or age (so aren't bothered about the risks to those doing the work).

He also cites David Edgerton's "The rise and fall of the British Nation" which suggests Britain as a post-imperial nation state was a project of Labour rather than the Conservatives, pointing out that the 1945 manifesto creating the NHS used "socialist" or "socialism" three times but "nation" or "national" nearly fifty. I'd never realised that.

You did ask.

That didn't need stating mate.

You should get yourself a bicycle and enjoy the exercise. It might give you an insight to the other side of the coin.
I spent 2 hours yesterday out in the sunshine on a mixture of roads, paths, tracks and lanes. all shared with other users including the usual errant toddlers and teenagers walking 5 abreast. No harm came of it and everyone looked out for each other.
A joyous escape from the current norm.

Try coming and taking a walk by the river Weaver, you will find the cyclists attitude fucking stinks and there will be one or more getting clothes lined straight off the bastard thing this week. Utter cunts.

Cyclists are better off on the roads than shared canal paths, footways and the like I agree. I avoid them like the plague. Get on the road

I see that the Grauniad is complaining about the UK introducing quarantine measures.
Seriously?
They're going to be introduced to help stop a second wave. The only issue is that they weren't put in place before half term in February

Would it have helped, it was already in the country by then, it may have delayed the peak not sure it would have reduced it. Like a lockdown , any quarantine is only sustainable for a limited time.
