COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Interesting points about having healthier populations though. Being drastically unfit has always caused health issues whilst being generally fit has staved off many an illness (I know that personally) but of course there are other factors involved and not everybody are fortunate to be mobile.

Indeed and lets see how they run with this winter, after all this thing did not get a grip in Europe until a big chunk of the winter had gone earlier in the year. This time it has got a whole 6/7 months of appalling shitty cold weather to go at in much of Europe, as much if not more so in Sweden than this pissy blowy cold and shit climate here.

Do not fear climate change will save the day (LOL).

Of course it's positive. I think we all know that the vast majority of these calls are kids with colds. Plenty of scientists and health experts have said this happens every time kids return to school. The vast majority, thankfully, will almost certainly be just that. Natural playground cold spreading. Sniffly kids everywhere.
And sniffly kids leads to sniffly parents. So many people with kids i know including myself and my wife and two kids have all had colds in the last 2 weeks since the kids have gone back to school and nursery. Naturally everyone starts thinking they have covid and wants advice or a test.

yep.

August. Get out you selfish bastards and eat out to help out. Think about your local businesses and high street and support them . Get out

September. Get in you selfish bastards , how dare you go out and enjoy yourself . Fucking kids going back to schools , students going to university the selfish twats .
Amended for accuaracy
August. Get out you selfish bastards and eat out to help out. Think about your local businesses and high street and support them . Get out, but remember to social distance, don't gather in large groups, wear masks and if you are in local lockdown, stop going in and out of other people's houses.

September. Get in because you have been unable to maintain social distancing, you keep gathering in large groups, you are't wearing masks and many have you have ignored local lockdown measures.

Yeah me and my family had the same. My lad went in school with a sniffle and coughed in class next minute everyone turned round and stared in horror! Poor bugger

Clear I think now that this is coming back with a vengeance. If those suggesting we wont get a vaccine until well into the new year are correct then this world is fucked. There will be the kind of unrest and breakdown the kind of which we have never seen in this country.
and on top of this were going to see home repossesions hit a high around Jan/Feb unless the government suspend court action from banks

I don't know how relevant this is for potentially better days to follow. But on the face of it, this is positive is it not? I'm probably missing a lot of the context tbf.

It explains why the death rates are so low compared to previously when the infection rates were at current levels: Hardly anyone over 70 is catching it, because we have tightened up our act on care homes, people over 70 are rightfully being bloody careful, and many of those most susceptible are dead already.

What it also shows (sadly) however is that there is no evidence for anyone to conclude that the virus is becoming less potent.

Sorry mate, but you are not allowed to mention any benefits of climate change. It has to be consistently positioned as the end of the world as we know it. "Being a bit warmer" just does not suit the agenda.

surely we can leave climate change out of this thread?

I've not read back through all the recent pages so am not sure if this has already been posted or not; apologies if it has but I thought it important to make our members aware of the following consultation instigated by the Government which hasn't been widely publicised. It relates to the potential roll out of unlincensed vaccines and non-medical staff to administer them.

The consultation period ends at midnight tonight, so anyone who wants to raise any objections (or alternatively, confirm their agreement) will need to do so as soon as possible.

I was made aware of it via a WhatsApp message which warned that after the 18th September, it is the intention of the Government to say they consulted the public and in the event that no objections were raised, that we consent to the rollout of unlincensed vaccines. More importantly, we are also happy to accept that we will not have the ability to ask for compensation if we face damage to our health.

I do not know if the above warning is true or not but as I do not trust the intentions of this government and given their track record on all things Covid related (including how PPE contracts have so far been awarded), I have registered my views in order to ensure they are noted.

I dont think there ever was any evidence to say it was less potent, its just a big mix of factors, Age, Masks, Social distancing, hand washing, hand gel at every shop + cleaning torlies etc etc.

Scotland data:

1 death sadly.

203 new cases at yet another record high of 4.4% of tests (it was sub 1% regularly recently).

69 in Greater Glasgow, 30 in Lothian and 29 Lanarkshire.

And a big rise in hospital numbers sadly - up 9 in the day even on the new low numbers they are using.

So from 52 to 61. That would have been well over 300 on the old measure I am guessing. Either way it has risen by about a third in a few days.

Still 5 in icu ventilator beds.

Nicola Sturgeon also warns they are seeing rises in the % of cases being found in older age groups and that is a cause for concern with regards to the risk of rising death numbers as being seen elsewhere.

Adds doing nothing is not an option and hard decisions will be made in coming days.

Agreed, but I have heard it mentioned as a possibility.

Nicola Sturgeon adds that the WHO says there are now 300,000 cases a week across Europe. Higher numbers than in the first peak (though more testing is a big factor of course). So she will be taking decisions to stop the virus getting out of control which the WHO warns Europe is now a risk.

Several countries are now regularly getting new case numbers at or near the record levels, Holland broke it's record 2 days running yesterday, France and Spain both broke theirs, France are pretty much running double the first peak, when it averaged 5k, its now close to 10k. None of these are doing tests at anywhere near the level we are either.
