Regional scoreboard all down but one (not NW either!):

London 241 - down from 320 - lowest in 4 days. But 3 of the last 5 here very consistent at 243, 247 and 241.

Midlands 458 - UP from 442 but also very consistent with 4 of the last 6 totals being 428, 469, 442 and 458.

Yorkshire 445 - down from 529

And North West failed to stop a run of three four figure numbers but at 1061 is a good fall from 1334 yesterday.

Birmingham set another record today btw at 202 cases. Up from 193 yesterday.

Scary stuff
Very interesting. Vitamin D once again getting a good recommendation. I’ve heard so many anectodal stories now & podcasts (Joe Rogan W/guests, experts in their fields etc) suggesting vitamin D is a great way of lessening the severity of the disease.

Well I should be good, been a beautiful summer :)

Covid wards are opening up and down the land. Deaths will start to ramp up at the back end of next week (3 weeks to Cykotine storm from first sympfons). Fortunately there will be 80% less deaths per hospital patient than last time.
An article on the Covid killer

The Vitamin D thing seems to be borderline magical thinking, spread by the same newspapers that regularly tell you X causes cancer (and the same X prevents cancer a month later).

The one study that kicked this off found that the most Vitamin D deficient group of COVID patients had the worst outcome. But failed to consider how these patients were also older and had more underlying health issues. Low Vitamin D levels are correlated with all kinds of contributary factors.

Out of interest which 'experts in the field' has Joe Rogan had on the subject of Vitamin D? He's been downplaying the pandemic for a long time and generally has looks on now, alongside the occasional good guest - but I can't stand him anymore.

incidently the graphs they show are shit. They only show confirmed Covid cases by +ve test result. The reality is there were up to 40 times more cases back in March/April than those who tested positive with up to 15 times the cases being symptomatic.

It’s not going crazily out of control by the look of things or am I missing something? Seems to have been around 3 to 4K for a few weeks? Keep it at that through an on and off switch of control until we have a vaccine? I know I will get shot on here for saying it but the government have done a bloody good job on the whole. Rayners comments today had me nearly head butting the wall. Could you imagine her in charge of this?

Don't want an argument fella but saying the govt have done a good job is without doubt the most bizarre post I have ever read on here.

I would be inclined to post it in the politics thread and at the same time put on the thickest tin hat ever produced:-)

Vit D is easily obtainable and cheap. I cannot think of one reason not to take it in these circumstances

I am banned from the politics thread mate. I strongly believe they have done a great job. But I am biased as a staunch conservative. I don’t consider it bizarre in any way shape or form. To pay people not to go in work, control the virus and deal with it - they have done as well as anyone. Not looking to argue but my strong belief and that of many many millions.

Have a nice day.

You're banned from the whole of the politics threads or just the corona one?

All of them mate. I am glad.i console myself when made out to be some type of leper for praising the conservatives when they win elections. As they will the next one.

12 deaths today then.
So, if this ‘second wave’ started with the ‘eat out to help out’ as well as around the bank holiday and the poor weather, shouldn’t there be hundreds of daily deaths by now? If not hundreds, shouldn’t they be doubling every few days?
No. The eat out to help out scheme was in pubs and eateries where you had to book a table and sit at it with social distancing managed via the seating and table layout. Who is saying that the increases in cases started with that anyway?

Friend of mine is a GP for the NHS she had an asthma attack at 4am this morning and had to be rushed to hospital. She's tested positive for COVID. Aside from mild asthma she has no other health conditions, is fit healthy and 32. The whole 'underlying conditions' needs to be done away with, as it's so loosely thrown around and totally insensitive.
I think asthma counts as it is a lung condition,k think that one is fair, hope she is ok

GM total score today is 472 - 170 down from yesterday - so a pretty good day with falls all round - some a lot more than others - but all healthy - and our first sub 20 total in a few days for one borough.

So 472 out of 1061 NW today versus 642 out of 1334 NW yesterday. So about 42% of NW total v 48% yesterday.

So all in all a better day in GM.

Not argument there - I take multiple supplements. People just need to ensure they are realistic about it not being a silver bullet solution.

This face masks and social distancing and hand sanitising and regular disinfecting of surfaces are reducing the spread dramatically.
I think pubs will be shut if thinks keep going upwards though. As a minimum additional regs need to be brought in, like:
- Sit down drinking only.
- Table service only.
- Walking in/at the premesis requires the wearing of a face mask.
- Fines for visiting multiple pub premesis ramping up by the number of places visited. (The twat in Bolton who went on a pub crawl after coming back from holiday triggered the Bolton numbers all on his own.)
