That fact it only kills around 1% is irrelevant if the entire population gets it because that's 700,000 deaths....
No chance. 670,000 possibles using your guestimate.
Remove the under 50s from that and we're talking maybe 150,000. As we're at around 60,000 it'll need to get it's skates on especially as it's reached the 60k before we really knew how to keep the ball in the air.
Daily deaths, as tragic as they are, will be nowhere near those of the early days.

Man up, it is not forever , other generations have coped with worse

The above graphs show how utterly fucking stupid it is though im afraid given what we are actually up against here and the real factors behind the numbers that have died ie existing health conditions and age.

Yes wear a mask, yes keep as socially distant as possible, yes wash your hands, yes use hand sanitiser but locking ourselves away like we are doing is utterly fucking bonkers and frankly futile and for nothing other than risking the economy and even more lives in the long run as the undiagnosed cancer deaths creep up on us etc.

steady , there are plenty on here would have you welded in a cupboard until....

Some personal experience that may provoke some thought.

My eldest lad 23, and his 22 yr old girlfriend live with my 84 yr old mum in Sth Mancs. His girlfriend works in a care home and therefore we have been very worried that despite all her efforts to make sure she doesnt take anything home if mum were to catch it that it would be her took it in.

Three weeks ago Wednesday gone my eldest ask me to pick him up from a garage where he was dropping his car off. When he got in the car he was full of cold sneezing and snotting. Despite not being Covid symptomsI joke that it had best not be covid, to which he says he has actually checked with NHS 111 out of concern for the delicate positions both gran and G?F are in. Not Covid was the confident proclaimation.

Fast forward to last Thursday and he calls me from work saying his bird has tested positive at work and he is off home to self isolate and order tests for him and his Gran. Both positive so all three of them. Her test was taken on the Monday result three days later. He and mum confirmed positive Monday.

Mum has been quite poorly for a week or two but with no Covid symptoms, tired and felt sick, but none of the main flag ups, no fever temperature or cough...same with my lad, and same with his bird though she did say thigs tasted funny for a couple of days. Thankfully mum seems to be getting better, been eating and been out of bed and downstairs last couple of days though it will be a few days yet before I am less concerned. So between them no real covid symptoms would likely never known they had it if it wasnt for his birds test at work.

There has been no Covid at her work for weeks neither staff nor residents so it would seem that it was my lad that gave it her having likely picked it up at work, just a week after returning from furlough.

It really has been an eye opener and has left me with more questions than answers.

How the hell did I not get it having been in the car with him for a couple of hours? Deepens my suspicion that I got it in February.
What effect do the test have on spread given the girl was working three days before she found out she had it? How long he had is anyones guess. Not much I suspect I am afraid.
Does anyone really actually know what the symptoms are? Judging by this very clearly not.

Where the hell we go this winter I do not know but it is very clear to me that most of the efforts to stop this thing are ineffective and mostly desperate attempts by the powers that be to fool the peasants into thinking someone has the first idea as to what the hell is going on.....by and large its working, until Covid comes calling at which point things become a little less clear.

Which would be more harmful to my well being than Covid statistically.

Nature is a brutal beast. This is a reminder that we are no different to any other form of life on this planet and it is an even bigger reminder to look after ourselves health wise as best as we possibly can so that when nature throws something like this at us, we are not in such a poor position health wise that we are unable to put up much of a fight and sadly, that is what we are seeing.

Is it the Tories that are killing us here or the 5 pints and a kebab that brought on the diabetes and will voting labour save us or will eating our 5 a day probably help in doing that more? Maybe voting for the lib dems will stop me from getting old?

Apologies for the political references but you get my drift.

Lead to in the Western world by a fucking appalling cultural diet which has a severe lack of vitamin and mineral consumption, years (decades in some cases) of leading a sedentary lifestyle which leads to muscular atrophy and appalling cardiovascular fitness... all lead to underlying or chronic physical (and mental) health conditions and opens up risks to contracting disease far easier.

The biggest thing I’ve learnt from this pandemic is that this country, and the West in general, needs a health revolution!

The majority of the Western world get to their mid-30s and then let their bodies deteriorate until death. Too many people in this generation of people are evolving our species in the wrong direction. Our life expectancy has risen over the last century, but I predict this generation of us will see that come down sharply in the coming decades, and that’s without Covid.

Of course, some people just get ill whether they’re fit and healthy, lazy and fat, or anything in between. There’s nothing you can do about some illnesses, but I’ll tell you what, if we had a health revolution we’d see a huge decline in all physical and mental ailments in general and we’d have seen far far fewer deaths from Covid.

the inter spouse transmission is 28% , that is one partner having it and spending the day with your spouse and sleeping with them over night . You would think it was 100% . But no. It’s strange.

I’m not sure I do get your drift tbh?

Been saying the same for a long time and as I posted in the Marcus Rashford thread it’s time we started thinking outside the box health wise. Teach kids how to cook and grow food, more PE, less burden on the NHS in the long run. Spend now and save billions later.

It’s infectivity is classed as low

One day, I predict the human race will come into contact with something with a measles like contagiousness and bird flu deadliness and that will be how we go extinct.
Those charts make no sense at all to me. If SARS is more contagious and more deadly than CV19 then why did it not cause a similar impact? And as for HIV and Rabies, I assume contagiousness does not distinguish between transmission mechanisms (goes to show statistics are meaningless without full context). Mind you looking at the source (CDC, WHO.....) makes me think they have no credibility whatsoever.

SARS doesn't spread like Covid because it kills too many people and too hits you too quickly.

The amount of time between you being contagious and very sick is so short that you don't spend much time out and about and spreading SARS.

There's also no mistaking SARS. You know when you've got it. No one is going to work thinking "It might just be flu" or waiting for test results.

I think he was saying that it doesn’t matter who’s in power, if the health of the nation is a fucking state like it is then we’re going to struggle when viruses pop up.
The health of the nation is almost certainly a factor why us (and America) are suffering more than most, but I really don’t think you can absolve the part the government have played in it.

PE and Food tech are two of the most important subjects at school, yet neither are compulsory after Year 9. That’s fucking mental that!

So that could be 85% of school kids, who don’t choose either of those subjects as options, who leave school with no idea how to exercise and eat/cook for a healthy lifestyle.

Essential life knowledge is not taught in anywhere near enough depth at school. They have to learn, in-depth, shit like poems and Maths that 99.5% of all people will never use in their life. Yet most leave school having been taught nothing at all about heart rate zones, muscular endurance, strength and power, cardiovascular fitness, protein+fats, vitamins+minerals, refined v wholemeal carbs, calories...

SARS1 is more contagious and more deadly than current Covid (SARS2). However with SARS1, you get ill more quickly and severely, and it kills you more quickly, so you are less likely to spread it around more widely.

72% of same bed partners do not get Covid when their partner has had it. It’s not particularly contagious. The only thing with this Covid is that because it’s not particularly deadly, then people with hardly any or no symptoms, who barely feel ill, if at all, can spread it around more widely.

"poems and Maths" is just as important in situations like this. If you don't grasp statsistics, exponential growth, probabilities - you don't understand how a virus spreads or the effectiveness of you as an individual isolating and breaking the chain of infections.

And English Literature, "shit like poems" is where we teach kids analytical skills you apply every time you read an article.
