Dildo has just been interviewed by the Health Services Journal and refused to rule herself to be Chief Exec of NHS England. The post is filled but I wouldn’t rule out Dildo being rewarded for monumental failures.

I wouldn't mind Tier 3 or a lockdown for another week in London.

When you look at the comparative data, London outperforms the NW and has done for five months or so, even though population density is much higher down here. The differences are evidently more stark when you look at them on a proportionate basis.

The rise in cases in London are primarily in a handful of boroughs in East London. Cases are decreasing in most boroughs. Of course, things can change.

I am still waiting to hear for an example of how London have been treated more favourably than all other areas.

I do find it amusing that many of my fellow northerners think we are having a party down here. It's been shite for months. Even when restrictions were lifted to a degree, going to places like the pubs were joyless experiences.

As for fairness, the virus ripped through London whilst there was no lockdown. At least the North had a lockdown to help stem transmission while millions of people in London were travelling by tube and bus each day and night.
Sorry, wasn't suggesting that you in any way have it easy down there. It's obviously been incredibly tough for everyone. Just frustrating that we're going into Tier 3 when, as @Healdplace points out, our cases are falling, as are hospital numbers and those on ventilators. Feels like the government are more reticent to impose restrictions on the south, but that's probably just my inherent northern bias!

Cases are falling but Manchester and Trafford hospitals are delaying lots of procedures/operations for patients on waiting lists. https://mft.nhs.uk/coronavirus-covid-19/

My preference would be for Tier 2 e.g.because businesses have gone to great lengths to make their venues secure, but the Covid position in hospitals is still bleak atm.

Sturgeon trailed the Christmas arrangements in Scotland yesterday. The message was pretty clear. Don’t mix unless you absolutely have to And maintaining the current level structure should be the default. Only if you absolutely need to mix indoors with another family should you. Is that the messaging that is taking place in England, Wales or NI?

My impression was that if it had been left to her, we wouldn’t be relaxing anything.

I think the problem is that 'London' is a big area where east/west extremities are high, whereas others like my borough is falling (last I saw anyway). The Standard claims 18 out of 32 boroughs have falling numbers.

Having said that, it wouldn't surprise me at all if there is a shying away from dropping such a large population into the higher tier when the data is all over the place, and I doubt any minister will answer a question about that properly.

I haven't been paying attention recently to Manchester numbers, so I don't know how this compares. I do know the boroughs have largely set up their own track and trace systems, and my borough is well above the national one for claimed success.

I think the same. She doesnt seem comfortable with the agreed arrangement.

Rates in North West are falling but still higher than the national average.

Midlands and North East & Yorkshire now higher than the North West according to this. We're higher than London and the east but very much in the middle now.

That sounds quite likely. She's generally had a strong message to that effect, I thought.

Warrington hospital is full as my mum had been moved hospitals as they needed her bed! I think this will be a contributory factor to a lot of NW towns remaining in Tier 3 for the time being.

Not sure how things will go down where I am in Chorley. They have recommended tier 2 but everything south and west of us will probably be in tier 3.
Im in south ribble and going to be very frustrating if we are all lumped in tier 3. Seems there are vastly contrasting rates across lancashire, but the majority of areas are seeing cases fall pretty rapidly. Wishful thinking as i fear we will all be lumped together.

The 116-bed facility built on the site of a former retail unit will treat people with COVID-19, taking patients transferred from the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust given it is "very busy".

A spokeswoman for the Nightingale hospital said: "We would ask that the public continue to observe the government's advice on observing the lockdown and social distancing so that we can keep patients safe

Sorry to hear your Mum needed to be moved.

Hopefully, the situation in hospitals will start to improve soon. Maybe by mid December the reduced number of positive tests / cases will help to support the range of NHS services.
