COVID-19 — Coronavirus

I think this was inevitable but it is coming faster than I feared. I really think the only thing that works is a national lockdown and these tiers are stupid and far too easy to ignore. And that followed by five days of Christmas from where we are now is going to create a huge wave 3 at the moment the cavalry is riding over the hill

Germany look like they are seeing sense and are considering a full lockdown from now to Mid January. Nobody wants that but I fear our messing about with things that tinker at the edges of what needed to be done will leave little option.

20, 964 cases - wave 3 is coming early.

cases by date of case have flatlined for 2 weeks or so now, some areas showing slight upticks. This is probably due to London's case rate.

It is still my firm belief this virus does its rounds naturally and nothing but the strictest of full national lockdowns does anything at all.

Can't see a topic on it.
Kay Burley, a vile woman in my view, has 'agreed' to go off air for six months for breaking Covid rules. I don't watch her, but I would put a wager on that age would have been after Cummings to resign?
Why hasn't she been sacked, or resign herself? She's basically on holiday for 6 months now.
Did you call for Cummings to be sacked?

I would have been happy for Cummings to be moved aside to a Government Department FWIW

I agree Shemnel. The one thing that drove numbers down in the NW WAS the national lockdown. Not tier whatever it was from August through to now. Not tier 3 since (though it is protecting those in it better than I bet tier 2 does to Merseyside or London).

They do not work for many obvious reasons that politicians surely know but decide to ignore because they have to consider the economy too.

I get that matters. But we all know it is a question of when not if we go into national lockdown and they could have done this by extending it to Christmas then giving a truce for Christmas. Because by the time they decide a national lockdown is necessary now it will likely have to last much of the Winter. Which will save no jobs.

According to my son today was the last day for initial university testing for students coming home , they had the quick tests with 30 minute results, so could just be that.

could be, which leads us down the inevitable road of hospitalization and death, and ultimately excess death, are the only metrics worth anything.

edit: seen the above and it's only PCR tests apparently. point still stands though.

Wales just announced all schooling to be done online from Monday. That should have been nationwide from the start of this month if they were going to announce their silly plan to let houses mix over Christmas.

That would be a safe bet. Both her and Rigby were banging on about it for weeks.

As Eds says the testing numbers are key and the way they are leaping all over the place day to day is not helping any kind of consistent pattern. I agree.

It creates scary numbers that will drive reaction of the media without the nuance of positivity. Which does mitigate.

But my argument stands only national measures work when you need them to the most. Tiers are a disaster.

Correction: Only Secondary Schools and Colleges. Primary Schools will continue to be open.
