My good lady tells me that there's a fifteen minute observation period once the jab has been administered. Which obviously slows down the process greatly. They'd been going flat out from 7am. Her appointment was at 6:20 pm. She also noted plenty of NHS staff in scrubs arriving for their hit.
I get the feeling that it's going to take a lot longer to roll this out than some appreciate.
That is because there have been a tiny few cases of anaphylaxis after various vaccines (not this one specifically) and it usually happens in that 15 minute window. So need to be in the presence of the staff where they have adrenalin to counteract it if necessary.

Exactly the same happened to me after I had my flu jab at the doctors in October. I had to wait those 15 minutes even though I have had this annually since 2000 with no reaction.

Had a flu jab last week. One of those mass roll ups in a local hall. In and out in less than five minutes.
I guess now there must be more confidence in this years potion.

They can and 99% are.

every country apart from ours is allowing contact between households. It’s only ours where we want zero contact.

Lockdowns kill more than they save directly and indirectly. We are killing people under the pretence of saving lives

Lol. You really should research things before you post.

Greece for example you have to txt the authorities to get permission to leave your house.

Watch areas for other posters:

Cheshire East 40 - down from 75 and lowest number in the couple of weeks I have been tracking it for Andyhinch.

Total cases 9837. Pop score up 11 to 2561. Weekly Pop score down from 118 to 114.

And down south:

Dartford 87 - up from 55. Most since asked to track it. Total cases 3248. Pop score up by 77 (more than double anywhere in GM) to 2884. Weekly Pop up 22 from 387 to 409.

Medway 388 - up from 300. Also the most since asked to track it. Total cases 9882. Pop score up 140 - most today and highest anywhere in a long time. Four times more than anywhere in GM today. Weekly Pop up big from 640 to 703. Biggest daily Pop Score rise I have ever seen.

Bollox. We are allowing contact - just not in our own houses (Christmas baubles etc). You need to check on the details for other countries too. You simply aren't correct

Me too. Stood in a queue, asked my name and DOB. Jab in my arm. Didn’t even get to sit down.

Maybe it is age related or the caution of my GP, They were only letting one person in the building at once and you had to wait outside and be buzzed in after the last one left by the other exit.

Mine was part of the protected patients list early on. Why I have been having this jab for 20 years an why I take self isolation very seriously I expect.

This was also a few weeks ago when cases were really high in GM.

Greece have done a great job.

Suppressed the first wave really quickly, then managed to get the 2nd under control after it looked to be going tits up.

Yes, that's right, Greece, the basket base of Europe, has a total fatality rate barely a third of ours, and a case rate currently less than half of ours and falling.

My first one at 57. And everyone there looked my age or younger.

According to the NEJM phase 3 results paper, as I read it, the entire spike protein is encoded for the Pfizer vaccine.

For Moderna, likewise

For Oxford/AZ, again "full-length SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein gene" is encoded according to the lancet paper.

It's entirely possible I've misinterpreted something as it's not my area of expertise.

Sorry to ask, but I'm reading the posts between you, Marvin and CF with interest. I'm struggling with the scientific details of it, but as I gather you and CF are of the belief that the AZ, Pfizer and Moderna vaccines would all still work if there was a mutation (such as one which is being discussed on the news) and Marvin is suggesting that they might need to be adapted or redesigned in some way as their current form might not work for this or other types of mutations, is that correct?

Sorry, it's a lot to take in when this stuff is way out of my depth, just looking to see that what I'm translating into layman's terms is accurate enough and I'm not picking it up all wrong. TIA.

Read somewhere that it takes 8 mins per person to administer vaccine. I assume that time includes patient going to room checking records etc. 15 minute wait takes place elsewhere whilst vaccinations continue. One person can do 15 people every two hours so 120 over 8 hours. 1000 people across the country can do 120k per day or 600k a week. Based on these figures, to vaccinate 3m people twice will take 10 weeks. Let’s hope there are more 1,000 people able to vaccinate us and it’s done seven days per week for at least 10 hours per day
Edit: my maths is shit. One person can do 60 people in eight hours so a 1000 people can do 60k per day, 300k per week etc

Christ. We’re getting hit hard down here.

a person I know working at Medway hospital told me patients are waiting in Ambulances up to 10 hours before going in the hospital as not enough room.

Personally I'm not saying they will work or not work.
Viruses have different proteins on the outside which the immune system can recognise.
The main bit that is thought to stimulate a strong immune response that is protective is the spike protein which has parts on it that can bind to the receptor and facilitate the viruses entry into cells.
If antibodies can bind to this strongly and can prevent the entry into cells they may be 'neutralizing' and the generation of these antibodies and other immune mechanisms is how vaccines work. They cause the generation by creating the protein in the body so the body recognises it in the future.

I believe that the protein generated in the Pfizer, Moderna and Oxford vaccines is the entire spike protein which has a number of different 'epitopes ' on it that the body can recognise and create antibodies to .
There are vaccines in development which just rely on a subunit of the spike protein namely the receptor binding domain.
What is being reviewed by the scientists at Porton Down at the moment is that there are mutations to the spike protein in the new strain and they are finding out whether the antibodies created both by people who have got antibodies either through disease or through vaccination will still work against the virus to neutralize it. The more bits of the S protein are in the vaccine the more likely it is that immunity will still be there but it is not certain.

This is at least my understanding though I would point out I am a clinician not a virologist/vaccinologist.

All the main eu countries have allowances on private dwelling meetings.

well done for picking the one that doesn’t greece

Thank you @Cityfan, that makes sense. Clearly, i've never studied any type of science, but am keen to have some sort of basic knowledge of what's happening and what everything means. A lot of the conversation is fascinating, but way over my head...so this helps to read it in such a way.
