Covid and travel discussion

Tui allowed us to move to next year for an extra 500 quid, but we do get an extra 4th night which is great.

Sure all of you will have a brilliant time, enjoy. Would love to know how it went after you come home.

Tenerife just gone into level three, the fuckers didn't even give it long for level two to have an impact, a week at best. I'm here now so stuck with it, I'd stay at home if planning to come out, this lot panic worse than Boris and co.

Level 3 isn't even that bad though?
I'm sure when I looked recently the jump from 2 to 3 isn't much restrictions wise, certainly not enough to make the average tourist reconsider.

I see from that website that something changed yesterday actually....still wouldn't put me off travelling but very little does.

Going to level 4 is a whole different ball game however....

Karon beach today (taken by my partners friend)

These pictures perfectly capture the absurdity of it all from a travel and testing perspective.

Tomorrow, I could swap the cold, dark, Covid ridden UK for a week or 2 on this secluded beach in Thailand.
Instead of having to socialise indoors cos of the shite UK winter weather, I could spend almost my whole time outdoors, in the sunshine, not surrounded by people....and any international tourists I might encounter will have also had to test negative upon arrival into Thailand.
It's about as Covid safe an environment you can get.

Yet to return to the Covid ridden UK, I'd have to test negative before boarding the plane, and test again upon getting home and isolate until the result comes through.
How does that make any sense?
Hardly any other countries have these prohibitive measures on their fully vaccinated nationals returning home.

It's early January before the entry processes for the UK are reviewed, and its high time they stopped treating people who travel abroad like lepers.

I felt claustrophobic wearing a mask for 15 mins on a train the other day so Christ knows what I’d be like for 10 hours!

On the positive front, I read yesterday that Lufthansa are flying from Liverpool to Frankfurt next year which is good news for onward flights.
