Covid and travel discussion

As someone in the travel industry can I get your take on how likely you think it'll be the supporters will be allowed to travel to the CL final in Istanbul mate (should City make it)?

How likely do you think it'll be and what do you think the logistics of it will all be if given the nod?

Do we have any idea on how long the 10 day isolation and 2 PCR test policy for travelling will last? So many question marks over this.

I think I'm right in saying that COVID is pretty bad in Turkey right now, so it's almost guaranteed to be in the 'amber' category as a best case scenario, but wouldn't be surprised to see them be cautious and stick it in 'red' initially.

From a practical and logistical point of view, I don't think there will be any issues getting into Turkey (they have been pretty vocal about looking forward to welcoming us back)
If it does indeed fall into red then flights to Istanbul will likely be partially cancelled but some services will still run.
Red will mean the hotel quarantine on return at the cost of almost £1800, making an expensive trip very expensive!

Amber would mean flights will probably depart as normal with few, if any, cancellations. Maybe some flights might consolidate depending on demand and load factor but Istanbul is well served by numerous carriers.
10 day home isolation on return, with the possibility to reduce that to 5 days with the test to release scheme (I think this will be on all summer as a minimum)

Have UEFA said anything about fans attending? So bloody typical that we might finally make a Champions League final during a pandemic ffs

In a nutshell; I think fans will be allowed to travel, but this will come with a level of risk that everyone is currently unaware of, and potentially spiralling costs. Also be aware that if Turkey goes into a full lockdown, and you didn't have a ticket for the game, it would be a pretty shit and expensive experience (flights, hotel, PCR tests, expenses....)

Istanbul is a great city though.

The Times is reporting today that the FCO will advise against travel to all amber and red countries.
That will have consequences for travel insurance, ie there won’t be any.

Ooooofff. £1800?

Jesus.

UEFA need to take a clearer stance on what policy they're going to have because this is a joke at the moment. Still noncommittal. The amount of uncertainty for supporters really makes it tough to plan, not that they give a toss though of course.

Thanks for the reply though mate that helps shed some light on the travel process.

British holidaymakers can visit France from June 9th..

We took a punt in November and booked Malta for 22nd June. I'll be double vaccinated by the end of May and my missus would have had her first, so pretty hopeful our 10 day holiday will go ahead with Malta looking like it'll be green.

Going away isn’t the problem at any of these places.

It’s coming home.
This is the issue, people coming back not necessarily on here will be moaning like fuck....simple, I love a holiday abroad as much as the next person, try to fit 3 a year in normally but not this year.

The fact you'll be jittery both before & there about the hassle, changing 'traffic lights' and protocols negates the value of going.
