Not denied entry only applies to the Burnley game. Statement clearly says for the Palace game you wont get in if spot checked and you do not have the appropriate Covid pass.

Why not? If fans know that they could be stopped how many are going to risk the odds no matter how much in their favour those odds are? Why risk losing your ticket money over a what amounts to very little?
Just going off other matches I've been to this season where they've had spot checks and I don't know a single person that was checked

I'm not sure it's clear enough if that is going to be the case to be honest.

It's not mentioned anywhere on the email that you will be denied entry from that game onwards if you can't provide that evidence.

I’m not sure if you will have to produce either your vaccination status or a negative test reading that mail. As it isn’t compulsory to do so to get in anywhere in England I’d say as it stands if you do get asked and can’t or won’t show either you’d still get in.

Lateral flow tests aren't very accurate, people with symptoms regularly test negative on them, think they're okay, complete a PCR, and then find out they're positive and have been infectious the whole time.
Very true. Had covid myself a couple of months back, PCR was positive. Lateral flow negative

Huh. I went to see Scritti Politti at the RNCM a couple of weeks ago. Bought the tickets last minute from my partner's work colleague, so had no idea I was going to be asked to provide proof of my vaccination status and proof of a COVID negative test. Explained the situation to the guy on the door who said "Oh, well, as long as you wear your mask once you're in then you'll be alright" and waved me and my mate through. Imagine similar things will happen outside the Etihad tomorrow.

You can very easily cheat the system very easily I discovered when you report a result online. There are zero safeguards against someone with a positive test reporting a false result. With over 50000 people in attendance I'd have to assume there are a greater than zero amount of people doing this, and there's no way to know who they are.

The email from the club states that you will be allowed to enter if you haven't got proof, that's for tomorrows game.

All parts of stadium for Palace…

Dear Supporter,

The Premier League has updated its matchday protocols for supporters and all clubs will now be implementing COVID Pass spot checks from this weekend onwards.

To start this process at Manchester City vs Burnley on Saturday 16th October, spot checks will take place in the Legends hospitality suite only.

If you have a ticket in Legends, you may be asked to present evidence of your vaccination status, or evidence of a negative Lateral Flow Test, prior to your entry, if you are over the age of 18.

Whilst we strongly encourage supporters to adhere to this change in the matchday protocols, you will not be declined entry if you are unable to provide proof of vaccination or a negative Lateral Flow Test, at this time.

At Manchester City vs Crystal Palace on Saturday 30th October and at subsequent Premier League matches, spot checks will operate stadium wide.

Please ensure that you have a valid NHS COVID Pass on your mobile device and be ready to present this if you are asked to do so by a steward. Information about how to download your NHS COVID Pass can be found here. Alternatively, you can request a printed COVID Pass letter from the NHS by telephoning 119 or by visiting the NHS website here.

If you are travelling from outside of England you can provide proof of vaccination that is available to you from your local health authority.

You can also take a Lateral Flow Test within 48 hours of your visit to the Etihad Stadium, register it with the NHS and present proof of your negative test result. Tests can be ordered for free here.

Please remember that you must not attend a match if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or if you are at risk of passing on COVID-19. The UK Government’s current stay at home guidance is available here.

We will continue to work closely with the Premier League over the coming weeks and will provide you with more information relating to compulsory COVID-19 certificates, should they be introduced later this season.

Thank you for your continued support.

Why do spot checks then still not deny people entry if they can’t provide proof?

is it some sort of trial to see if the checks work when implemented throughout the whole stadium?

Think they will need trials to work out how they will do it SHOULD the legislation come in from the government at any point this winter

It doesn’t say that at all. It just says random spot checks all over the stadium from the Palace game. Says they will be in touch if compulsory covid certificates are introduced later in the season.
