Cracking Days Out With City

Well said Bill, good to see you posting as you don't seem to write on MuEN much nowadays. I don't either for what it's worth.

Of all the day's i've been there, and there's been several since first visit around '80, that was definately the best day out for me, even beating the promotion winning 4-1 there in 2000. Ok was probably on a par, but the result deflected the Tevez saga nicely and the weather was scorchio.
Besides, the Rovers fans are always good banter in the pubs with no sign of trouble.. The way it should be IMO.

I remember my frst visit there crammed in the Darwen end when it was all terracing, and it was so packed i couldn't move. I desperately needed the loo but was nowhere near the exits I had held my bladder as much as i could before i could stand the excruciating pain no more, and yelled " i need a pee"! Everyone parted enough for me to relieve my bursting bladder except for a rather hard of hearing elder gentleman in a rain mac stood infront. Although he never noticed i felt so embarrased splattering his mac to everyone's amusement stood around me!

Nice to hear from you, bluemoon risin. There used to be some good posters on the MEN site but I packed it in ages ago as for several reasons. Mainly because of the rag bias but I also got fed with the personal nature of some of the clowns that got on there. At times it got so bad that a reasonable discussion was impossible. BM is a much more entertaining (and informative) forum IMO and you are obviously of a like mind.

Funnily enough, one of the most memorable away days I ever had with City was when Shrewsbury knocked us out of the FAC in 1979. Nothing to do with the match itself, of course, but the rest of the day was brilliant. We had about 5 car loads in a convoy down from Manchester. Most of the pubs in Shrewsbury were closed but a mate of mine knew a pub not far from Gay Meadow and the landlord let us in through the back door. We had a great lunchtime session with the locals. On the way back home we called in a one or two pubs and ended up getting chucked out of the Swan in Bucklow Hill for making too much noise laughing ! It could only happen to City Fans - booted out of the Cup by a 3rd Div side and then kicked out of a pub for laughing too much.

anyone old enough to remember FC twente away in 1978? i went with the london branch.

Went to Borrusia Munchengladbach the same season, I was 16 at the time and it was my first trip abroad with the blues, I flew with the club and had 2 of the best days of my life. Still see some of the lads who I met on that trip at games nowdays.

Don't get to many away games but the 3 that stand out for me:

QPR in the FA Cup 92/93...my first ever away game
Lokeren...3 days of solid piss-up in Brussels
FA Cup semi last year...the best of the lot, in fact the greatest moment of my life!

Hopefully should get another european away day in this season but can't afford it before Christmas so it's 50/50 as to whether this happens.

It was good on Saturday.

Domestic and European aways are completely different things, so I won't mention Munich, Salzburg or Poznan (or even Barca!)

Last season had some of the best away days - Blackpool, Fulham, West Ham and Newcastle stand out in the league, with Notts County in the cup also being top. Villa was a top day out as well actually, despite the result!

Others that stand out over the years include:

West Ham first game of the season under Sven.
Middlebrough 8-1.
Everton 2-1 when Robinho and Ireland scored.
Sunderland away Johnson last minute equaliser.
Beating United at OT.

If I hadn't been too hungover I'm sure sticking 6 past Burnley would have been up there!

Anyone remember Stoke away,i think it was about 1988/89?

It was boxing day and everyone arranged to go in fancy dress, the days of the inflatables.

We took our biggest away following since winning the league at Newcastle, twelve thousand.

It was a sight to behold all in fancy dress and a mini pitch invasion by a wolf and some other character at half time being chased by the old bill and the Stoke lads going barmy as the City lads wound them up.

Typical City though to poop the party...after going 1-0 up we lost 2-1!

Had some great days out as a City fan, but we generally lose when I go (although we were coincidentally shit at the time!). That 8-1 was fantastic, I was hugely pissed. Boro is actually my favourite away day, I remember the 2010 FA Cup game when there were only about 8,000 there. Can't remember how many blues were there, but think there may have been as many as Boro? It was also nearly snowed off. Remember showing up and thinking it was called off due to so few people inthe ground. Done Boro so many times. New Years' Eve was a good one,

Had a good trip in the 0-0 vs. Pompey under Sven, stayed over a night in London, then a night in Pompey. Long distance away trips it can be good to stay in a hotel. 3 of us in a room only cost about £15 each.

Saturday was my best domestic away game in a good few years. Not even close to the time we got promoted at Blackburn though.

Blues all over the ground, top weather, getting beat at half time but still win 4-1 with them hitting the woodwork on numerous occasions. On the pitch at full time, back to the coach for some champers and back to Failsworth, which was full of blues all the way down Oldham Road. Top, top day.

dortmund last year , munich last week, schalke and hamburg last couple of years , top trips to germany
