I can’t see the Ashes taking place if the players have to completely bubble for 3 months, with potential replacements having to isolate for weeks before being able to join.

I also think a fair few players won’t go, which questions the integrity of the competition.
It’s their choice, but I’d rather they decide not to go now and then see a team head out that is at least committed. The team needs fresh blood anyway and is arguably on a hiding to nothing, so it might be a painful winter but one that bears fruit further down the line.

The Aussies are just trying to give themselves the biggest possible advantage. They tried it with India and it didn't work. Either some refuse to go and we send a weakened team or they make the conditions as difficult as possible for whoever does travel. I hope the ECB tells them to fuck off.

It's all about the money , not the competition.

Seding a weakened side, allowing our players to come home after three tests, sending the Lions out there as substitutes. It's bollocks. Fans want to see the strongest team out there , though even in normal cicumstances the England camps new squad rotation means there is as much chance of seeing England's strongest team as there is of seeing City's!

i think its one of the reasons why england struggle over there because they treat it like a holiday
3 months away from home is not that hard and with zoom and phones your not cut off completely
so again your playing in the biggest tournament in cricket and getting well paid as well ??

the ECB asked teams to visit the uk over the last 2 years and live in bubbles now its england turn well they are ducking it ? we all know the real reason and its the drubbing we are going to get and even root losing the captain role was on the cards after the summer

if england don't go there will be trouble for future ashes.. so we send over the players that want to go and give some of the younger players a chance like Matt Parkinson would be a good choice to take

The strength of their lockdown will be the issue.

It may well go ahead with a depleted team.

Whatever the outcome, the ashes have been devalued.

Paines comments were actually pretty crass in my view and let’s face it the Aussies haven’t played an away series since 2019 so if we decide to bin it fuck em.

to a point ?
but sending over a patched up squad and younger players will be like a england B-team
but if they did really well and won a couple of test then it would be great

England showed "Western arrogance" by pulling out of their tour of Pakistan, says former West Indies bowler Michael Holding.

well said mikey
pretty much what i was saying

Didn’t they withdraw due to safety issues, rather than Covid?

Fair enough. It’ll be interesting to see what is decided in the next few days.

i can see both parties getting to bend the covid-19 rules and the families will be allowed to go but will need covid-19 vaccines and 10 day quarantine both ways ? also the players are falling like flies and sam curran is now long term injured and will miss the 20/20 world cup

at this rate we don't have any choice but to pick jimmy anderson for the ashes is he willing to tour

We might end up fielding the commentators!
