I'm picturing them being 8 wickets down at the end of play. Questions will then be asked about the timing of the declaration. Did he bat on for 15-20 minutes too long?
Sorry jh, but that’s being wise after the event. Root’s status after his poor batting in both tests (yes I know he got 53 or whatever it was, I’m not very impressed, he should be converting those into hundreds) is already rocky as both captain and batsman. If he’d declared at say 200, and the Aussies had then gone on to win it, he would have been figuratively hung, drawn and quartered this evening. We had to make sure that we didn’t lose this match before having any thought of winning it. And at one point it was more than conceivable that we could lose it. We’ve recovered a measure of pride, we live to fight another day. On to Headingley.
Exactly we couldn't afford to give them a sniff the only way we were setting them less than 250 was if we were bowled out.Root couldn’t have declared earlier than he did. If he declared on 200, the Aussies would have won the game. They weren’t to far away from 200 at the end of play tonight.[/QUOTE
Think Jofrah has pretty much hit all of the Aussie top/middle order somewhere painful in the last 2 days he's frighteningAmazing how the psychology seems to have changed once one of our bowlers twats the cheat.
Cottrell’s.Denly or Stokes? Which is the best catch of the summer?
