Test cricket is without doubt my favourite format.

I'd hate to see it fade away and become something they can't be bothered with.

It's great that we have excellent players in the shorter forms of the game, but the five day cricket will always be my preference. Not that England often take the game to the fifth day :(

I know it’s not the only factor (NZ are #1 for a reason), but this result was in part spawned when we neglected to chase a tough but getable target. That ‘defeatist/we’re not good enough to get’ attitude tends to stick.
I agree on an overriding approach to the game - if we end up getting beat we will atleast go out playing the way we believe the game should be played etc.

May not produce anything in the short term but I agree as a mindset to the game - New Zealand would have chased it.............

Should be a stipulation that IPl players consequently make themselves unavailable for England.
If they chase the money to play an inferior slog version of cricket; so be it. Tells you about them and their motivation.

They have 5 tests vs India to get this shit right before they go to Australia or else it'll be another 5-0 whitewash
Not professing(sp?) to have the answers and I can understand why they don't want to have huge back-to-back overseas tours, but regardless of how well the team are performing, how can it be good preparation to play at home with the ball swinging all over the place and then going to Australia to compete in completely different conditions?

No similarities between the two set ups - doesn't make any sense to me..............

New Zealand are a better team than us right now.
There's a reason why they're playing the World Test Championship Final soon.

We have some good young talent that needs to be coached and mature. In particular with the bat.

Bringing back Stokes and Buttler will make a big difference.

I don't see why they can't do both? This is the ECB trying to rest and rotate the IPL players, I'm sure if Buttler, Moeen, Bairstow etc. had the chance to play for England this past fortnight instead of playing in the Blast then they would have.
