I was one when he first came in that why bother bringing him back but he has something about him when batting yeah he got out to a poor shot but he was playing positive he just has to quickly learn to pick the right balls.

I feel though bowling wise till Broad and Anderson retire from test cricket we can’t do a rebuild of sorts.

Any idea how much batting under lights he's done? They made a big thing yesterday of how much more difficult it was towards the end of the day.

Things won't get better under Silverwood.

His management of the side is bizarre and the results are terrible.

They seemed to decide Jack Leach was their bowler for this series a year ago and then didn't play him at all. Didn't play him in India when it was turning at right angles and Root was England's best bowler. Didn't play him in the entire summer.

Put him in the first test against really settled batsmen and now we don't have a spinner for an Ashes series in Australia.

Moeen Ali gets stuck in a bubble for 4 months away from his family without getting a game, goes home on a prearranged date just as they need him to play the next match.

Archer is out for 9 months because they overplayed him through a stress fracture.

Hameed smashes County cricket for years and gets brought in 2 tests before the Ashes.

Its just a massive clusterfuck and there's one guy responsible for all the coaching and selection so its obvious where the problem is.

It is and silverwood is a yes man for me and it’s Root that’s saying who plays who doesn’t.

As we don’t seem to have openers we should just save the 30 minutes and have root and Malan open, they may as well start at 0/0 instead of the usual <20/2

Also, there doesn't seem to be a lot coming through to make improvements.

Anderson, Broad, Buttler, Root, Stokes, Woakes, Burns, Malan, Bairstow, Wood, Leach - all over 30.

Only Crawley, Hameed, Curran, Bess, Lawrence and Pope are under 25 in the current squad and maybe only Hameed would be considered a certain starter at the moment, and this is only his fifth test in a row after years out!

And they all look badly coached at the basic level.

Rory Burns has basically been either playing test cricket or on holiday for the past 2 years and no one has tried to fix his technique problems. Theres no county or one day getting in the way.

Butter and Bairstow have really obvious weaknesses and they're not being fixed.

I remember great opening batsmen like Cook developing technique issues or bowlers exposing weaknesses after loads of analysis and theyd go away and fix them, it was just part of being a top class cricketer. Now it seems everyone just accepts massive technical flaws and hopes they go away.

The dropped catches everywhere- thats always been used as a barometer of the coaching staff.

There's no evidence of coaching.
