Apart from Root and maybe one of the fast bowlers, I’m not sure any of our current side would make the ‘05 Ashes winning team. And yes, I do rate peak Freddie more highly than Stokes.

This has 5-0 written all over it (assuming nothing happens over Covid) and we’re not even playing a particularly strong Australian unit.

I'd swap Bell for Root and Geraint Jones for Buttler. I'm struggling to know where to squeeze Stokes in though. Possibly to replace Vaughan as he wasn't in particularly good form that series.

The bowling looks fairly even with maybe a slight advantage for the 2005 team if Simon Jones is fit. The top order batting is levels above the current squad with the likes of Strauss, Trescothick and Pietersen.

It is just embarrassing , like men against boys. On the first day of both tests you know that we are going to lose.

It really is embarrassing and frustrating, who is coaching these batters. It is always the case in Australia if the ball is not full it will bounce over the stumps, that is why you see so many deliveries left by the Aussie batters, yet we play at everything and a matter of time before we get out.

Interesting thought on the keeper. Jones did get some valuable runs but his glove work was ropey.
Simon Jones is a shoe in if fit. His reverse swing and control just great.
I’d keep Vaughan as Captain and with two as rounders Freddie and Stokes allows the keeper at 8.
two from Hoggard, Jimmy and Harmison.
Only an opinion.
