No sign of rain yesterday, just overcast all day and a seamers' paradise a possibility.

Lanky must have done a rain dance. I'll take the 12 points each. It is showing rain until 3/4pm, maybe get in an hour and shake hands a 5pm.

Do you see many Lancashire players, other than Anderson, of course, getting a call-up?
Probably not. Mahmood is developing nicely, but isn’t ready, especially if the old guard are returning.

Parkinson may make the squad if they are seriously considering playing him, but he didn’t make the Lancs side for the current 4 day game.

Buttler seems to be on gardening leave from the test side at the moment.

Bohannon needs more runs and experience.

How about you? It’s hard to say with much certainty.

Can only speak for Surrey. While Burns, Pope, Foakes, and Sam Curran have all made solid starts to the season, I think Foakes is the only one that strikes me as Test ready. The others are still prone to the kinds of lapses in concentration that would have them sent back down to the county. Ironically, Foakes is the one whose absence Surrey would feel the least, as in Smith they have a more than able deputy.

As you said earlier, it seems more likely that they’ll go back to tried and tested players. I think they may use Pope though as they rate him. His shoulder has stopped him getting more games for England.

Perhaps. He's currently averaging 64 in the Championship, so he'll likely have another strong season, but I just don't see him as a 3. Will Root be happy to play at 3 after all these years of moving others around the order?

Yeah, interesting one. Could give it Broad as a stop gap to give them time to choose or maybe whoever the wicket keeper will be.

We all know you have to pick Broad and Anderson in the English summer, simple, it swings around corners.
It's when we go on tour and down under that questions are asked ? We pick the same bowlers, knowing it does not swing like it does at home and don't have an option to turn too.

The system is the problem and the ECB putting all their eggs into ODI cricket and sod test cricket.
This summer will be the same under stokes and jimmy and broad will win test matches and all things are rosy again.
