Worried about Root coming out to positive four slips and keep hanging the ball out there for root to play and he Knicks one!

It’s up to Faukes to be more positive for me and Root staying in to the end.

Two hours yet, but very grey, cool and breezy in London. Probably rained a bit at the ground too. If the sun breaks through, the ball might start to do something but that's NZ's main hope.

15 overs to get close - I think England have this, as the old ball doesn't do anything much.

I'd be more than happy for Root and Foakes to just block everything that needs blocking, and leave everything that needs leaving, for three or four overs, conceding maidens. Maybe taking the odd one or couple here and there. Just checking out how the ball's behaving. Batsmen often come out in the morning slightly less concentrated from the night before, I've noticed. They need to get into the groove.
We have all the time in the world.

England need to keep the run rate ticking along before the new ball is taken. Blocking for a few overs might be counterproductive if the new ball is then taken and wickets quickly topple.
